GIVING
There is a story of two young men who were working their way through Stanford University. The day came when they were broke, and something had to be done. One of them had an idea. They would engage the great Paderewski for a piano recital and put their profits toward their board and tuition. All they had to do was guarantee two thousand dollars.
The recital was held but only sixteen hundred dollars was raised. Following the performance, the two young men went to Paderewski, offered him the $1600 and added a promissory note for $400 which indicated they would earn the balance as quickly as possible and send it to him. "No," replied Paderewski, "that isn't necessary." In addition to tearing up the note, he also gave them back all but 10% of the sixteen hundred dollars. The years went by, and Paderewski became Premier of Poland. The devastation of World War I descended upon Europe, and he was faced with the prospect of starvation for thousands of people. Only one man could help him, the United States Food Administrator at the time. Soon thousands of tons of food began to arrive in Poland for distribution among the people. Following the gift of life-giving food, Paderewski went to Paris to thank the U.S. Food Administrator for the relief he had sent. The administrator told Paderewski, "That's not necessary, Mr. Paderewski. You don't remember, but you once helped me when I was a student without income or money for food. I never forgot it." The gifts we give come back to us in many different ways.

Serving God with Our Prayers
December 11, 2016
The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.
James 5:16 nlt
God often chooses to move through our prayers to accomplish His work. We see this when God told the prophet Elijah, I will send rain on the land, promising to end a drought in Israel that had lasted three and a half years (James 5:17). Even though God had promised rain, a short time later Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel, bent down to the ground and put his face between his kneespraying intently for the rain to come (1 Kings 18:42). Then, while he continued to pray, Elijah sent his servant to go and look out over the ocean seven times, scanning the horizon for any sign of rain (v. 43).
Elijah understood that God wants us to join in His work through humble, persistent prayer. Regardless of our human limitations, God may choose to move through our praying in amazing ways. Thats why the letter of James tells us that the earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results, all the while reminding us that Elijah was as human as we are (James 5:1617 nlt).
When we make it our aim to serve God through praying faithfully as Elijah did, were taking part in a beautiful privilegewhere at any moment we may be given a front-row seat to a miracle!
How can I serve You through my prayers today, Father?
Submit your prayer request or pray for others at yourdailybread.org
Great expectation on our part honors God.
Elijah was human just as we are, but God responded to his persistent prayer. We also see the idea of persistent prayer in the New Testament. To encourage Jesuss disciples to persist and persevere in prayer, He told them two parables. In Luke 11:513, a host persistently knocked on his neighbors door until his friend gave him food for his guest (vv. 89). In Luke 18:18, the widow was dealing with an unjust judge who had no compassion or concern for her. But he gave in and consented to help her to stop her pestering! In both parables, perseverance bore fruit. The question is not if God will answer prayer, for He most certainly will (Luke 18:8). The question is whether we will be found faithful in persistent and persevering prayer (v. 8; Rom. 12:12).

Howdy, Kathy.
Yes, I’d say we’re ALL breathing a sigh of relief that FR is back.
Ooo, BRRR! Too cold up there! Not too bad here today. We got up to 40 degrees but it’s dropped drastically since sundown. Supposed to be in the low 50s tomorrow with rain tomorrow night into Mon. morning. We’ll take it!

"I VOW TO THEE, my country, all earthly things above, Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love; The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test, That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best; The love that never falters, the love that pays the price, The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.
And there's another country, I've heard of long ago, Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know; We may not count her armies, we may not see her King; Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering; And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase, And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace."

Good evening, Mac...*HUGS*...a Blessed Lord’s Day to the MacNessa family.
No clue to why my tree lights didn’t work. Changed the fuses, no light, throw them away. Every year after Christmas I go and buy multiple more strings. All tree lights are now glowing....looks good and my Mom comments that she likes seeing them as she rolls down the hall to the living room. It’s good to hear something positive these days.
Are you and the family making progress?

No progress this weekend, Kathy. I'm still in the same condition as I was last night with only slight abatement of the back pain.
We'll be playing it by ear for tomorrow.

Happy tree shopping tomorrow! I’m sure you’ll find a beauty.
No trees for us at Christmas. Not with our “herd” of cats. LOL! Just garlands over doorways and other items that can be UP, away from kitty paws.
