Newsweek senior political reporter Kurt Eichenwald is backing away from his report that supporters of Donald Trump booed when the president-elect eulogized the astronaut John Glenn at an Iowa rally Thursday night.
Eichenwald's retraction came three hours after the original message about jeering at the Trump rally.
"Trump supporters booed John Glenn when Trump mentioned his name at today's rally," Eichenwald wrote in the original tweet, which has now been deleted. "A real American hero risked his life for us. He got booed." The original message was retweeted more than 4,200 times and received 4,300 likes.
Footage of the event shows Trump supporters weren't booing Glenn, but instead heckling protesters at the scene in Des Moines who became disruptive.

I am not a John Glenn supporter.
Here I will address my thoughts, but in a public setting I don’t think it serves us well to be negative about him.
At a Trump event or a public memorial, I don’t think it would be fitting.
I dont understand what you are saying. They were not booing him.
this is why there is no Newsweak on the rack at the bookstore (which has over 200 magazines on display)... and not even any old, ragged Newsweaks in the pile at the dentist’s office anymore
#FakeNews
The Left yammers on about fake news. They’re the inventors of it.
This reporter flat out lied to create a narrative he wanted. He should be fired.
I’m not making a statement about the article. I am voicing an opinion of proper protocol.
Sorry if I seemed to infer otherwise.
At Newsweek, he probably got a raise.
Kurt Eichenwald is a particularly nasty piece of work, a standout even in an industry chock full of them.
I was always taught there was a certain decorum to be followed in the event of somebody’s death, whether you liked that person or not.
They have families. Respect is called for.
I did not believe the initial reports that Glenn had been booed.
Kurt Eichenwald’s unabashed liberal agenda, just oozes over, with everything he writes.
The speaker implies. The listener infers.
You're getting off with a warning this time. But watch it.

Why do your job and report the facts, when it’s much easier to lie and still get paid for it.
I always take my Kindle to the DDS/MD. The few ragged Times and Newsweeks there lie undisturbed and rotting.
Fake News from Newsweek...whowuddathunkit.
Not certain that I would want this writer around to be aeound children and pets ...
...story not much different than Bernie Ward’s ...

Put Kurt on a very large firework and fire him into space
I’m glad he wasn’t, and as I said, I am not a fan at all.
In my childhood and youth, even early adulthood, yes.
As an adult, I had to face the reality that Glenn became.
BTW: I was not basing my comments on this event. I read the headline and accepted it.
My comments were about proper protocol, and you expressed similar thoughts.
Gosh! Thanks Mr...
