Oleg Atbashian, the gifted satirist and artist who founded The Peoples Cube, has written a classic essay that deserves the widest possible circulation. How I Became a Thoughtcriminal is a personal account of growing up in the Soviet Union and discovering censorship, leaving it behind, and rediscovering it here. This is chapter one of the story:

“the gifted satirist and artist who founded The Peoples Cube”
Excellent site. I think I read recently that he finally got his well deserved citizenship which was done the right and legal way. So nice to welcome a new Patriot that appreciates our constitution and our Republic. He is a very gifted artist and writer. Thanks for sharing.
LOL! No wonder The Peoples Cube has so many satirical graphics from the soviets union.f You’re welcome.

Thought Crime Bump
The original intrusion? Santee Clause. He knows when you are sleepin’ he knows when your awake. He knows if you’ve been bad or good. And he knows what you’re thinkin’ too no doubt.
And now the totalitarian leftists are teaming up with the totalitarian Islamists. The censorship in Western societies has redoubled since Islam came into play. Apparently the leftists are hoping that Islamic supremacism will quietly go away once it helps them to silence the world. That is, of course, yet another dangerous delusion.
Takes me back to 2005; two middle aged women at nearby table, enjoying lunch al fresco, one says to the other, I think they are letting too many muslims into the country, they are too violent her friend replies, I know what you mean, but we aren't supposed to say that...
I turned and asked, what's to prevent you? Who is asking you to censor yourself? You live in Australia, you may express your opinion in public.
They were embarrassed - probably thought of me as some kind of interfering zealot, but I hope they remember my comment, because as time passes, the pressure increases to censor our thoughts and speech, and we know where the pressure originates, don't we?

Yes, and you knopw waht?
I decided 2 years ago not to knuckle under to political correctness, even with my immediate family.
The results are positive, I now am no longer welcomed in the home of my Obama supporting sister or her physician husband, for pointing out the truth about Obama-care and the nature of Obama fascism. They nearly fainted.
Otherwise, life continues as usual, except that my sister is having a fit since Trump won. Her little utopian world is disappearing.I remain politely distant with a kind sense of humor.
Although the two women were strangers, I found I had to speak up, my reaction to what she said was so powerful, I thought I was going to choke.
I couldn’t overcome the thought; now why on earth would anyone censor their opinion in a free country that was so proud of its contribution of lives and treasure in two World Wars?
Sorry to hear about your family...I have a lefty sister, she inherited that from our parents. I’m forever grateful to have escaped the affliction.
Bttt

You know freedom and liberty. Others can exist within a state of liberty, but have no idea how to define it, reconize it, or preserve it.......until it is gone.
That’s how traitors like Obama can succeed.
And it is our sacred responsibility to stop such nascent tyranny.
You did a fine thing by speaking up.

One of my favorite quotes.

ON LIBERTY
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.
Among the natural rights of the colonists are these: first, a right to life; secondly, to liberty; thirdly to property; together with the right to support and defend them in the best manner they can.
The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men.
Samuel Adams
