Block Impeachment of IRS Commissioner (WTF?)
Conservative Review ^ | 12/7/16 | Staff

Posted on 12/08/2016 11:57:44 AM PST by Baynative

This vote was on whether or not IRS Commissioner John Koskinen's impeachment should be blocked. Conservatives have made the case that Koskinen was involved in covering up and hampering Congress' investigation into the IRS targeting of conservative groups and conservative speech. Koskinen has been accused of repeatedly lying under oath and refusing to cooperate with congressional investigators.

In June 2014, he told Congress that since the start of this investigation into former Director Lois Lerner, every email had been preserved. Yet, just three months earlier, IRS officials magnetically erased 422 backup tapes containing as many as 24,000 of Lois Lerner’s emails. House conservatives brought articles of impeachment to the floor accusing Koskinen of violating the public trust of his office. Instead of affirming the articles of impeachment and sending them to the Senate to be tried, the motion was blocked.

For years, Congress has abdicated its oversight powers and the accountability tool of impeachment against abusive executive officials. Koskinen was a perfect candidate for impeachment and this would have been an opportune moment to strengthen congressional power and deter future executive officials from malfeasance and to hold corrupt government officials accountable. A vote in support of this motion was a vote to block impeachment. - See more at: https://www.conservativereview.com/votes/h6081142016#sthash.0FpGjwlC.dpuf

Well, I have to say I am totally baffled by the votes of some who never would have ecpected to side with democrats on this.

ESPECIALLY; Gowdy, Sessions, Pompeo and Issa.

Can anyone explain this?

Jeff Sessions is our next Attorney General - I don't get it.

“Can anyone explain this?”

Impeach him now he gets pardoned. When Trump gets in you have a DOJ investigation.

“Can anyone explain this?”

The swamp runs far deeper and wider than any of us ever imagined.

Very disturbing.

“Can anyone explain this?”

There is more corruption among Republicans than we thought. Our political class as a whole is irredeemably corrupt and depraved, both Evil Party and Stupid Party.

Are they entrenched or what?

This was the deliberate silencing and terrorizing of innocent groups and citizens.

And after the November results too....unbelievable.

Impeachment is simply removal from office, not a criminal conviction. He is a political appointee, right? He is removed in office 20 January. I doubt Congress could even do an impeachment before then and what is the point with about 42 days to go.

I hate the guy - just being pragmatic at this point.

I hear ya.

I can understand there is politics behind every vote. But, this coming from Gowdy, Issa and Sessions stopped me in my tracks.

I would like to hear from the Congressmen’s constituents. What do they think of their representatives actions?

From what I’ve read elsewhere, the vote was just to postpone until after the Inauguration.
