Liberals and the environmental left have gone into a tizzy over the selection of Oklahoma attorney general Scott Pruitt as Donald Trump's pick to head of the Environmental Protection Agency.
House minority leader Nancy Pelosi says the Pruitt nomination must be blocked "for the sake of the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the planet we will leave our children." New York AG Eric Schneiderman says Pruitt is a "dangerous and an unqualified choice." Independent socialist senator Bernie Sanders declares the Pruitt pick is not only dangerous but also "sad." The League of Conservation Voters calls Pruitt not just a global warming skeptic but "an outright climate denier."
Whew! That's strong stuff. But what is Pruitt's actual offense? He has challenged the EPA's practice of going far beyond its authority to attack the energy industry and thus affect practically every industry in the country. The EPA needs a leash, and Pruitt and other state attorneys general have gone to court to attach it.

Was just thinking that maybe Trump strategy is to nominate ANYONE who he knows would get shorts in a knot, time it so about the time one gets ‘sunk in’, name the next etc.
Even if they get soundly rejected, the fun is having all MSM & LIBS crapping their shorts....
Of course in these days and times, crapping their shorts is the ONLY warm & fuzzy feeling these chaps will get.

So what happens if there is no director of the EPA for Trumps entire term?

EPA is 100% under the control of POTUS. 100%.
It was created by Nixon with an executive order. Nixon showed Congress respect and CHOSE to submit his proposed head of the agency for approval by Congress along with his budget request for its formation.
All subsequent Presidents have shown Congress the very same courtesy.
However, as this is NOT a Cabinet level position the Administrator does not require Congressional approval...despite Pelosi’s claim Trump’s pick should be blocked.
The only power Congress has over EPA is funding.
I guess if Congress doesn’t like who Trump appoints to lead this agency they could withhold funding until he appoints somebody they like.
But Trump can have whoever he wants to run the agency and nobody can stop him...and he doesn’t need anyone’s approval.
I did not know that. Wonderful. Just defund. It is now a weapon for taking your stuff on the basis of no science.
Oh, and a President doesn’t have to spend all the money Congress budgets for the agency.
In fact, he can eliminate 1/2 the positions in that agency and close 1/2 the buildings overnight and there’s nothing anyone on the planet can do about it. He can also set any rule he chooses about employees publishing outside approved channels under penalty of firing...whether they research on their own time, or not.
He can also determine, exclusively, what research and official actions any EPA employee undertakes to include what they are allowed to look at...even how many stamps they are allowed to use on a monthly basis.

You post that like it would be a “bad thing!” Just think, with no funding, there wouldn’t be much of a fight over thousands of people being laid off. And all of their nefarious programs would simply go out of business without any money ( or people ). The new administrator’s mission would be easy breezy with no money.
