Jeep Fans?
Freeper Husbands!
I am Thinking of Buying a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara. I like the vehicle, it is big for me, I am moving from my Golf Diesel. Although I have had Xterras and Mazda MPV (Before they ruined its design) previously.
I looked at many new cars and SUV crosses and they all are poorly designed, have lousy visibility and have metal that is so thin it needs to be serviced every few months. I also discovered I need a more butch looking vehicle. All the Suv crossovers look like they were made for Oprah. Teardrop shapes and curves.
I liked the used Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara. It looks durable, I have found a couple of them. Seems as though I am having a difficult time getting the price down below 30K
I cannot quite figure out the Jeep Wrangler choices. Is there a Jeep Wrangler as high and tall as the unlimited but only with 2 doors? All the Wranglers I see with 2 doors are short and look like they belong in a suburb.
Any advice from Freeper Jeep owners appreciated.
Am I making another dumb move here?
Buying a Jeep is like buying an RV or pontoon boat.
The second happiest day of your life is the day you buy it ...

I see what you did there.
I test drove an XTerra and was nervous the whole time. Im not a nervous driver - I have driven most everything on wheels from Semis, to Tractors and combines, skiploaders, motorcycles, other heavy equipment like excavators, first car was a Caddilac, had various pickup trucks and full size vans (15 seats). The XTerra was one I did not feel comfortable in.

It was my first and last Nissan. I had figured Nissan Toyota, all made by Japanese, No big difference. WRONG!
Poorly designed and executed. My Mazdas were much better in design and workmenship. Had to sell it at 104K It was falling apart. This is for a vehicle that was maintained and garaged.
You’ll need to choose between 4wd and 2wd. If you are not going to use the 4wd, no sense it getting it for the decal on the side.

They make 2WD Jeeps????

Then I went to the Jeep dealer and was looking at the top of the line Grand Cherokee and it was nice. But then I went across the street to the BMW dealer and fell for the X5. Talk about WOW. It has AWD and tows up to 6000 lbs with a 600 lb tongue weight (as much as my Silverado was rated for), it is a twin turbo 6 cil diesel and gets incredible mileage and has a big tank so can go over 700 miles on a tankful of diesel. Put it in sport mode, click in the sport gearing, punch it and the turbos kick in, just hang on cause you're gonna get someplace in a big hurry. Little to no cabin noise. Steering is electric and a joy to use. Fit and finish is incredible. It didn't have all the features that the Cherokee had (auto breaking and side warnings - cause I didn't order them but could get them) and it handles corners like it is on rails. It towed my roughly 1700 fishing boat like it wasn't even there when the truck could handle it but I knew it was back there. Vehicles that pass by us while we're sitting in left turn lanes at lights, their wind impact barely moves us which is not something I could say about either the truck or CRV. Price was about the same as the wrangler. If I was doing it again I'd probably buy it again with a couple extra options like the windshield display for one.
Me, too. I’m driving a 20 year old Avalon.
Just illustrating that its a three-row compact SUV. Very rare nowadays. The model that followed is called the Taurus X with a more powerful motor.

My MPV was a 8 passenger 4WD SUV two adults and six midgets. Although for quick evening rides to the lake we could get 10 or more midgets double buckled in and hold the inflated truck inner tubes out the windows on either side. Let’s say that the Park Rangers knew when I was a’comin’.
They make 2WD Jeeps????
Why?
LOL! They do! And I have no reason why. I know my Cherokee had a 2wd opinion as well as the grands. But if you don’t want 4wd, then why get jeep? :)
Less than 3% of people who buy Jeep actually use them for what they are made for: off road adventure.
I’ve seen stock jeeps on 4wd do amazing things on the trail. Such fun vehicles.
beamer?
wait, it is in a stream, not a beamer. It looks like a little suv in a stream. How did the little guy get there? she asked.
I am sort of following that strategy except I’m getting killed on parts for mine. Most of the first line stuff I can do. My killers are no lift, garage, and beer buddies for bigger jobs.
At least I have both kinds, Willys and AMC.
Thank you. I think that the Rubicon is more than I can manage, although I like it very much.
I think the Sahara has more of the features that I need or want. I will not be doing much offroading unless the leftists are chasing me during CWII.
Yes, but in my husbands Wrangler, I’ve experienced climbing up a 45 degree granite wall...can’t beat that with a stick, IMO
But my 4-door 4wd Cherokee is my baby. Never been off road with her. She has a 3 suspension lift and looks mighty fine. At 16 years old, I still get offers of 10k for her. Never had a bit of mechanical trouble until last year, but heck, shes 16! A few hoses are gonna get dry.

my brother has a Cherokee and really likes it.
I think the Sahara has more of the features that I need or want. I will not be doing
Get the Sahara if you like it and don’t worry about the others. The Saharas are nice regardless of how many doors it has. :)
Price insurance and maintenance into the equation and you will find Toyota 4by’s a better alternative. YMMV
X-5
The amenities put any jeep product to shame. The ride unparalleled. To me, a Jeep is for a younger sort. My olde aching bones don’t like bouncing around...that was in another time. ;)
However the Gr Laredo is nice looking. Doesn’t have the visibility of a X-5.
I’ve been off-road a lot in the beemer, altho not extreme off-roading, and the AWD is super to have. Brakes are much superior to jeep products.
Take a test drive from a 50 mph line, do a *panic stop* and see what happens. In both cars.
Drive in snow somewhere [if you can] and see how it handles.
Do a *cost to own* on one of the web sites. It will help you make your mind up.
Good luck.
