Yuletide capitalism is running rampant this year with the cost of a Christmas tree topping $1,000 in one Manhattan neighborhood.
Longtime Greenwich Village tree seller Heather Neville said Sunday that her tallest and priciest offering will command an astonishing $77 per foot from any buyer who cant haul it home.
This 13-foot tree a beautiful fir is $750, and with delivery, installation with a stand and tip would be $1,000, said Neville, who bills herself as the NYC Tree Lady.
Neville, 40, broke down the add-ons as $200 for the stand, $25 for delivery and setup and $20 each to the three or four men needed for the job.
She also justified the sky-high price tag which could pay for 600-plus meals for the homeless at the Bowery Mission by pointing to the exotic nature of the white fir on display at Seventh Avenue and 11th Street.

I guess there are some that still celebrate Christmas in NY. If it’s not too offensive.
probably snuck over to the Jersey Pinelands one night with a chainsaw...
Lot of money for a dead tree.
$1000 bucks for a tree, proves the axiom about a fool and his money.
Meanwhile, Mrs WBill and I put up the fake one we've used for the last 15 years. Still works fine, ornaments still hang on the branches. WBill Jr could care less what it looks like, so long as there's room underneath for presents.
White Fur.............
We stopped using Real Trees long ago , I think they made us sick during xmas ,can’t remember , LOL
1,000 dollars in Manhattan is like 100 dollars for everyone else in America. Their net worth and annual salary are extremely high.
Celebrate Christmas right! Kill a tree!...............
I live fifty miles from NYC, and I know a tree farm where all the trees are $50, 3 feet tall or 20 feet. I bought an 11 footer a few years back for only $40.
A couple high school boys will help you put it on your car, but setting it up, you’re on your own.
They are a mess and a fire hazard.................smell is okay, though..............
I’m in the wrong business...............
I just saw the I Love Lucy Christmas special and Fred Mertz buys a nice sized Christmas tree and it cost him $5 which apparently was a lot of $.
Live trees are still allowed to be sold in NYC?
Last year, our 10’ tree was $20, the most we had paid in years. We went to the same place this year and it was $70. Fuggetabboutit.
We drove down the road and spotted a sign that said “White Pines $15”. We got two 9 1/2 footers.
The guy met us carrying an “assault weapon”. He apologized and my wife laughed “I’m from here, son”. 50 caliber Beowulf modified AR-15 for hunting hogs.
It isn’t easy being green.
There is the same silly high end for everything in NYC, where the insecure rich are eager to outdo each other, the costs of business and demands for tricky home delivery are high.
Not a mass phenomenon.
And if you are so inclined, you can fight your way into the City to do business there reselling those trees for whatever the market will bear.
So it goes. (And $50 for a 3-foot tree is outrageous.)
We take ours out of it’s storage box, unfold the branches, assemble the three sections, and plug the sucker in! It’s about seven feet tall.
I like my fake one.
It already has the lights on it.
It’s nice and straight and even.
If it tips over you don’t get the brown water spilled all over the carpet.
If you want smell, buy a candle.
