Sarah Palin calls Trump’s deal with Carrier ‘crony capitalism’
The Sacramento Bee ^ | December 2nd, 2016 | By Brian Murphy

Former Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin, who is reportedly under consideration for a spot in President-elect Donald Trump’s administration, criticized Trump’s recent deal with Carrier to keep jobs in the United States.

Trump visited the Carrier plant in Indianapolis on Thursday and touted the deal during a speech after the visit in front of a Carrier banner.

Carrier will keep about 1,000 jobs in Indiana, instead of moving them to Mexico. In exchange, the state of Indiana is giving the company about $7 million in incentives. Vice president-elect Mike Pence in the current governor of Indiana.

“When government steps in arbitrarily with individual subsidies, favoring one business over others, it sets inconsistent, unfair, illogical precedent. Meanwhile, the invisible hand that best orchestrates a free people’s free enterprise system gets amputated,” Palin wrote in an op-ed published Friday by Young Conservatives.

“Then special interests creep in and manipulate markets. Republicans oppose this, remember? Instead we support competition on a level playing field, remember? Because we know special interest crony capitalism is one big fail.”

Palin, then the governor of Alaska, was on the 2008 Republican ticket with Arizona Senator John McCain. McCain and Palin lost to Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Palin was an early supporter of Trump, endorsing him in January of 2016.

Maybe you were so wow that you did not read the rest of it, fat.

I said this is HOW those who successfully lead, would lead. They’ve reached past their customary comfort zone to do it.

Too many arm chair experts with too little, or no knowledge, are over reacting to conjecture and supposition. This place is starting to look like CNN.

“Instead of cutting individual deals, how about eliminating corporate taxes altogether?”

He can’t get that done until he’s president, but I’m pretty sure it’s high on his agenda. He’s spoken of doing that, many times.

Trump does not have the power YET. Pence is Governor of Indiana, thus this deal was made. Trump has always stated that the tax rate for businesses will be slashed to 15%.

And paradoxically, the wow itself illustrates my point perhaps better than I could.

Quick jumps to emotion that can shoot past logic.

That doesn’t always happen, when they learn as part of their emotional suite, “Go to the logic! Go to the logic!” and the day is saved.

She is off base. Coulter started her dissing Trump as well.
They need to STHU. They’re opening their mouths when loyalty is crucial during the recount mess. Shame on both of them.

Ma’am... I know at least what happens when ladies’ emotion goes rotten. They go anywhere EXCEPT logic. Emotion is great, it is wonderful, when it propels to the right place.

Did you read the column actually written by Palin? You should. What Sarah Palin wrote is totally consistent with what she has always professed.

Do Levin and Palin realize that the 1100 saved jobs have an avg. salary of $65K per year and that the $7 million used to save them will be returned via various taxes owed? This isn’t to mention that each employee will spend their salary keeping local businesses, and others viable? And have they considered savings related to social services that won’t be needed by these folks? Or do they simply not care about helping the American worker?

That’s why I said we got trolled (and so did I).

Sarah didn’t say what the lefty headline wishfully said that she said.

I don’t know whose “shriek” gives me a bigger headache - Hillary or Palin.

Time to just shut up and let Trump do what he pledged to do. Period.

As an ardent Palin fan, I’ve got to say, this is one of the few times (maybe the first time) I’m not on the same page with her.

Trump hasn’t performed any kind of official act. He’s not yet the president, and is in no position to do so, although it would be foolish to claim he has no influence, even now.

I know he does.

In the case of Carrier and their tax situation with the state of Indiana, it appears to me that the state is simply allowing them to keep more of their own money. I’m sure that Trump wants to see every business in Indiana get the same deal.

I see this more as Trump doing what little he can, at present, to begin delivering on a much wider promise.

Sorry, Sarah. I don’t agree with you this once.

That headline mischaracterizes her comment.

I got trolled here, though. She didn’t quite say what the headline characterized her as saying.

Maybe this headline should be tagged [mischaracterization].

I’m disappointed in conservatives who react in knee jerk reaction to MSM fake news reports. As soon as I read this article and read a few comments, I went straight to the source, Palin’s actual piece. Her assessment was right on. The Sacramento Bee was fiction. I would think we’d all learn this by now.

Mark Levin is a loser. He is rooted in the old Reagan days that longer exists. Libertarian economics is dead in the Trump Presidency. Take him at his word. He is going to protect American workers & industry and will start with Corp & individual tax cuts and from there hard nosed trade deals good for American workers. Levin's ideas is not what voters voted for across this country and Palin should hold her tongue until he assumes the Presidency with results. TRUMPUS MAXIMUS AMERICANUS!

Yeah, she got misconscrewed in the headline. No such thing happened. She said, essentially, she hopes Trump makes this generic.

Mark Levin was saying the same thing on his program this afternoon. Is he a shill, as well? Palin is pretty consistent in taking the high road. Sometimes her words ar a little harsh (like PE Trump), but since she attacked your man, now she is a shill?

Trumps helping Carrier, right out of the gate, sends two messages. First, that he is a man of his word. That’s good for him across the board for the doubters on the hairy edge of trust in the rust belt.

The sceond message is that, now, there is precident for any company that is flagging financially due to mismanagement, cost of raw materials, exchange rates, pick the excuse, to threaten to move over-seas as a solution. Now, there is precident for bailing out failing companies on a micro level, and “to cut a deal” at the expense of the taxpayer.

This needs to be shut down quickly. Trump needs to tell Ford to think very carefully before they move, and continue to iterate that punitive tariffs and tax incentives are on the way. Trump only brought a carrot to the Carrier deal, he forgot the stick

Remember that Trump is just a man elected to do a job, not a diety or institution that must be protected at all costs. He screwed up today, and Palin, among others, called him out based on conservative principles, nothing more.

No need to shoot the messenger. Yes, her motives are obvious, she’s a principled woman.
