Former Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin, who is reportedly under consideration for a spot in President-elect Donald Trumps administration, criticized Trumps recent deal with Carrier to keep jobs in the United States.
Trump visited the Carrier plant in Indianapolis on Thursday and touted the deal during a speech after the visit in front of a Carrier banner.
Carrier will keep about 1,000 jobs in Indiana, instead of moving them to Mexico. In exchange, the state of Indiana is giving the company about $7 million in incentives. Vice president-elect Mike Pence in the current governor of Indiana.
When government steps in arbitrarily with individual subsidies, favoring one business over others, it sets inconsistent, unfair, illogical precedent. Meanwhile, the invisible hand that best orchestrates a free peoples free enterprise system gets amputated, Palin wrote in an op-ed published Friday by Young Conservatives.
Then special interests creep in and manipulate markets. Republicans oppose this, remember? Instead we support competition on a level playing field, remember? Because we know special interest crony capitalism is one big fail.
Palin, then the governor of Alaska, was on the 2008 Republican ticket with Arizona Senator John McCain. McCain and Palin lost to Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Palin was an early supporter of Trump, endorsing him in January of 2016.

If we lowered the corporate tax rates to a point where the taxes paid for keeping the business here versus moving it out of the county, then yes, the higher tax burden would be on those who chose to leave.
Tariffs should be leveled against imports coming from counties that are blatantly manipulating the value of there currency.
I know these are very broad statements. I’d be perfectly happy with the government just getting out of the way at this point, but you have to admit, there are many countries around the world who are playing dirty pool and taking advantage of the goodwill of the US. Actually, I’m pretty sure between Bush and Obama, they spent all of it.
I’m OK with Trump being a dick for a little while, just to make the movers and shakers choose very carefully before pulling the trigger and screwing the country that got them where they are.
That has always been true which is why it is useful to everyone to cut corporate taxes
For a corporation, taxes are just another cost. And like all other costs, those are passed on to the consumer in the form of higher prices.
Is there any reason the corporate tax rate cannot be ZERO?
Not sure. I was radio silenced today listening to audio testing on a new line of speakers set to hit the market this spring. I don’t watch TV, either, so when I do hear Newt it’s usually a sound bite on Fox Business via XMSirius.
well considering he is not president yet. can’t get the EPA off their backs. can’t lower their taxes yet. can’t repeal obamacare yet. i think it is a good start. When the boat is sinking you find the hole and plug it. Then, when you get to a place to haul out, you can redo the glass and put a nice coat of two part paint on her.
But her tone was inappropriate and she showed she doesn't really understand the realities of business. It is very much about using your leverage. Businesses have an obligation to their shareholders to get the best deal and return on investment.
Trump's involvement was to sell Carrier that it was in Carrier's interest to stay and invest in America. Indiana sweetened the pot because it was in their populations best interest to do so.
Sad but true!
Yes. I’ve tried listening to Levin, but cannot take his non stop whining about Trump. Levin gets to go to the “off” department with Beck.
At one point the only Federal tax America knew was tariffs.
Stuffing genies back into bottles is not easy, but still possible. We do have 50 little bottles, called states.
I would have liked to see here at the VA. I think she really cares about service men & women, she is as dogged as they come, and great at ferreting out the lazy grifters and pocket liners. Maybe it will happen.
Instead of cutting individual deals, how about eliminating corporate taxes altogether? Make this the most business friendly country in the world, taxes wise.>>>> uh like he said he would do when he becomes president. The guy isn’t in office yet and can only use the bully elect pulpit and it looks like he did. I don’t get what the criticism is? He has pledged to lower taxes, cut the regulations and repeal obamacaare.
No Sarah is an air-head. You play the hand you are dealt, ideals are fine when you have the power to implement them. Trump didn’t. He either cut this deal using whatever he tools he had now, or those jobs were gone. In the future, when he is in office, he can do it differently (if Congress cooperates). Now, it was do what you had the power to do, or let them take the jobs away.
Pragmatism and accomplishment Trumps the pure ideal of philosophy...when the ideals would accomplish nothing.
He did what he had the power to do today. Sarah Palin would prefer nothing...inaction and failure. She’s a fool. And she shouldn’t get anything in this administration, those positions should be awarded to people who will strive for accomplishments. Sarah Palin hasnt ever accomplished anything short of making herself wealthy and comfortable. Leave her in the dust.
So called conservatives have achieved absolutely nothing conservative. They have won nothing politically and nothing in results.
Obamacare defunded?
Wall built on border?
Foreign trade deficit of $800 Billion every year reduced?
Abortions reduced?
Planned Parenthood defunded?
ISIS defeated?
Less terror attacks worldwide by Islamists?
Less Americans on food stamps?
Americans earning more real wages than 2 decades ago?
Regulations on small business reduced?
National debt reduced? (IN SPITE of US Treasury taking in more revenues than ever)
Flow of illegals in country reduced?
The conservatives are ALL TALK and NO RESULTS.
A state can basically do lots of things with its resources that the states legal majority voters let it get away with doing.
As a side note to this post, also consider this. If the states want to see a tsunami of new revenues that they probably wouldnt know what to do with, then they need to work with Trump to do the following. They need to put a stop to unconstitutional federal taxes, taxes that corrupt Congress cannot justify under its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers.
Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States. Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
Like Santa, Trump is going to
How much was the state going to collect in taxes after they moved to Mexico? This is a win-win-win for America. The company wins, the state wins, and the workers are the big winners. The only loser is Mexico.
come on Sarah don’t do that
The bible says (roughly) that an unfaithful servant is like vinegar on the teeth of his master.
I trust that Trump will make good decisions, don’t get me wrong, I just disagree with the message it sends.
Yes, local, state, and federal governments give tax incentives all the time, and businesses shop for the best deals. True, also, that infrastructure, highway access and a myriad of other considerations come into play.
I simply think that with this precident set, we may see an avalanche of business that are on the edge start to make noise and try to strong arm state and federal government, à la Al Sharpton, to get money out of those governments when they otherwise should have been left to fail on their own, here or in another country.
Sarah needs to understand the playing field is not level right now due to the business acumen of the past four presidents, Bush, Clinton, Bush II, and Obama. Horrible trade deals, extensive regulations and open borders, combined with in our face currency manipulation has made it impossible to compete.
Trump made a statement. It was loud and clear.
