ANALYSIS/OPINION:
President-elect Donald Trump would be best served by selecting a secretary of State who understands the national security challenges our country faces, can literally “hit the ground running,” has a proven track record of successful negotiations, and most importantly, not only protects but projects the greatest attributes about America’s ideals of freedom and democracy. Remember that President Obama spent the first part of his administration on an apology tour. His disdain for American leadership in the world was communicated aboard and broadly.

Tippy toes would more likely have taken Cankles as SOS than Bolton.
I said I’d rather have somebody else, if fact, I’d rather have ANYBODY else rather than Romney.
His backstabbing has been continuous throughout his political career, that should never be rewarded.
I only voted for him because Obama was so awful, I really do not like or respect Romney at all.
Bolton is a war monger as you have stated, but Trump will be setting policy and he is far less likely to go rogue than Romney.
That said, there are lots of others I’d rather see, Rudy has my respect for telling the Saudis to stick their money after 9/11, in particular.
The only other choice that’s been mentioned that would be as bad as Romney is Corker.
He needs to be removed from office in 2018 for his vote for Gang of Eight and the Corker bill.
The GOP's losses in 2006 and 2008 can be attributed directly to the disastrous moves that define this guy's foreign/military policy agenda.
It’s funny you say that. I’ve wondered if Bolton would have been a better fit for Secretary of State in a Hillary Clinton administration.
I view Condi as the bushy, not Bolton.
If Bolton prevailed, he would have done a great deal of swamp cleaning at State. Condi was initially good, but petered out.

Yes. My take on it. Bolton is a Reaganite.
Bolton seems a bit too eager for us to go over there and fight for one team of Islam .... or the other team of Islam .... to ‘win’ in various countries. I’m not certain he gets it that neither team of Islam is our friend and that American’s don’t care which team of Islam ‘wins’ over the other team of Islam.
To be fair, he’s not alone in that delusion.
Bolton hates the UN and international law.
Or in the case of the Balkans, to fight for one team of Islam (Kosovo) against a nominally Christian country (Serbia).
I'm sure Bolton brings some good expertise to the table as a consultant, but he should not be allowed anywhere near the U.S. State Department in an appointed position like this.
I want this guy to list his sources of income along with the sources of revenue for every employer he has had outside the U.S. government for the last 25 years. I suspect a lot of people who are his biggest supporters here will be surprised to learn who has been paying his bills over the years.
My choices of those 4 in order are Bolton, Rudy, Petraus, and no one.
Exactly, I agree. Unlike the utterly unqualified Hillary, Condoleeza Rice was a very smart and well-prepared Secretary of State ... except that her area of expertise was Russia, not the Middle East.
It was pre-9/11/2001 when Bush appointed Rice, and at the time it was believed Russia would be our biggest foreign policy challenge.
I don't know if Bolton is fairly labeled as a neocon. I do know he is fearless, and he knows where all the bodies are buried. No learning curve necessary for him at Foggy Bottom -- he knows who all the bad guys and gals are at State.
Bolton would go right up to them and laugh in their faces, while firing them. That alone would recommend him for the post, by my lights.
How so? He's against enforcing our national sovereignty and borders? I haven't seen that.
There's only one illegitimate military campaign America has waged in the last 25 years and that was Iraq. Which illegitimate campaigns are you talking about that Bolton favored that proves he's a political one-world-government globalist?
Bolton and Dennis Ross as backup
Especially now that he has joined forces with Gabby Gifford’s husband Mark Kelly in gun control advocacy group...
How about Syria?
It seems like there isn't a regime around the world that this guy hasn't wanted to replace at one time or another.
Anyone who recognizes this as an illegitimate military campaign should immediately disqualify -- in his or her mind -- any candidate for elected office or a cabinet position who was complicit in it.
Giuliani or Bolton, i’m fine with either one. No and hell no to Petraeus and Romney.
Then you need to use a more specific term. And my point remains that Bolton is anti UN, anti international law, anti ICC and pro US sovereignty. He would do an excellent job draining the DOS swap.

Since you know the sources of Bolton's income, then have at it. What are they?

I don't know them. That's why I want him to make them public. I just know how the lobbying and PR game in Washington works. Trump can't "drain the swamp" if he fills his cabinet with people who have been living in its fetid stench for three decades.
