The president-elect of the United States is a notorious troll a fact which his promise to ban Muslims from entering the country, threat to imprison and strip Americans of citizenship for exercising their First Amendment rights, and widespread insulting of people online all make clear. We now learn via Slate that the two technology platforms Donald Trump uses most prominently to spread his messages of hate and division, Twitter and Facebook, take a very different stance on how to respond to future instances of harassment by Trump. Namely, Twitter says it would consider suspending his account. Facebook, which CEO Mark Zuckerberg (mostly) denies contributed to Trump's victory by means of spreading fake news, not so much. The publication reached out to Twitter directly and inquired whether top government officials could ever lose access to their accounts for violating the site's rules. The Twitter Rules prohibit violent threats, harassment, hateful conduct, and multiple account abuse, and we will take action on accounts violating those policies, a spokesperson responded. When asked if those standards apply to Trump, who The Guardian reports will soon be given the handle @POTUS, the spokesperson replied in the affirmative. The Twitter Rules apply to all accounts, including verified accounts. Twitter has previously banned so-called "alt-right" a.k.a. white supremacist trolls. That the future president of this country could fall into that category reflects a sad state of affairs. And yet, according the company, Twitter Rules are Twitter Rules. If Trump violates them, his account could be sanctioned in some form or another. Facebook, for its part, says it has a slightly more nuanced view of things.

Twitter board and CEO are literally out of their minds. They can’t even convince someone to buy them, and they want to alienate over half of their users? Cool. Maybe I can buy Twitter for $1000 once the dust settles.
I tried to sign up weeks ago.
Said I was number 1M, or something like that.
A week or so later, I received an email saying it was “my turn to speak freely”...no link, no log in/set up info...nada.
He could always direct the FBI to investigate them HARD over #pizzagate. They won’t do nothing to him.
“What if Twitter cancels his account?...................”

Start?! Been going on a while!
Drudge — GREAT idea. Like Bezos buying WaPo, but far better!
“May be a two week wait. Looks like the occupation social media is committing suicide.”
Yes. Time to look into Gab stock!
Ban Twitter’s software patents and 140/60 byte domain. Software patents are common mathematical knowledge that nobody should own.
Anti-Trust the fools.
Liberalism is a mental disorder. Liberals are self-deceiving, and also self-destructive. Given time, liberals hurt themselves, in any number of ways - from drugs to unsafe sex to voting to stupid business decisions. More popcorn.
Haha!
Gab has @RealDonaldTrump reserved & ready to go.
Do it Twitter.
A more serious replacement would take its place immediately.
Found that on Twitter, I did.
;D
Thank you for the site.
Have you been using it? What is your opinion?
Totally agree. This is just nonsensical click-bait for some obscure web site. And if you read the article, all that Twitter said was that its policies apply to everyone. Well, what else would you expect them to say? That they make an exception for Trump? Twitter and Facebook know full well that the shitstorm coming from tens of millions of Trump followers would totally destroy them if they banned his account. It will never happen.
I signed up so that I can lurk.
I do that. :)
It has long been wondered as to why Twitter, Facebook, et al, have NOT already banned DJT and his surrogates from their sites.
My question to DJT: why give these empty heads any business whatsoever? They do not deserve hand outs of any type. Start your own site, and invite like minded persons to contribute
Memo to Mr. Trump: Sir, thank you for considering the suggestion regarding ‘fireside chats’ History has shown these to be informative with information flowing freely in both directions.
“Do it, Twitter.
prove who you really are.”
Agree. Not only that, just as when Obama shut down oil exploration on public lands and American ingenuity came up with ridiculously effective fracking on private lands, the act of Twitter tyranny will inspire an alternative that kicks a$$, and I hope a conservative (not Fox) news network and chain of papers will follow.
So a private company can ban him , because he sues it to get around the biased, corrupt media, and talks to the American public directly, but a private company has to bake a cake, or do photographs for homosexuals.
The lefts hypocrisy is astounding, do they honestly not see how hypocritical they are.?
