President-elect Donald Trump broke bread with a fierce critic and now-possible cabinet pick Mitt Romney Tuesday night at Jean Georges Restaurant in Trump International Hotel.
Trump, joined by his chief of staff designate Reince Priebus, sat with Romney at the fancy French eatery in Columbus Circle.
The meeting took place after a weekend of internal strife in his campaign over whether to hire the former Massachusetts governor as Secretary of State.

Mitt is a lot of things, but I don’t think he would willingly allow harm to come to the president.
A lot of people shot their mouths off, but when push comes to shove reality moderates.
Look at all the Democrats who were going to move out of the nation. Not one of them will.
“For an appetizer the trio sipped Garlic soup and chomped on Frog Legs.
Then they devoured Diver Scallops before the main course. “
I wonder who picked that menu and if there is any significant symbolism on that. Like “Frogs in a boiling water”. One thing for sure, if I was sitting at that table I would be gagging LOL
I hope you’re right, Doughty. I just don’t trust Romney.
But I think Trump really knows people, and perhaps has an idea of where to put Romney to best effect.
I don't see Mitt wanting to be a 10 billion dollar custodian.
We’ve seen that Trump has broad enough shoulders to shrug off campaign rhetoric and see a person’s real value to the administration (see: Carson). Four years ago on FR, everyone thought Mitt was the greatest thing next to sliced bread (at least compared with BO). The guy has a ton of connections, keen mind, and a probably squeaky clean. There are worse choices.
Based on the smile on Trump’s face in the photo, I’m guessing he had the photographer set to go. Romney looks a bit surprised on the other hand.
DONALD {smiling}: This sucker does not know what I have up my sleeves.
ROMNEY {not smiling}: Being with this dude is giving me an upset tummy.
Michael Savage says this is the deal Trump made to get RNC support back in July. Rinse and Milt and Mitch McGobble’s wife and God only knows what other RINOs are coming on board.
Lucky us. You got a scoop!
I want to stay away from trashing Trump until his policy goes South.
I know what my instincts are here, but then I’ve never even come close to operating on Trump’s level.
He was a CEO, and he’s used to telling folks how it’s going to be and then them having to follow through or be gone.
Don’t know what else to say.
It’s like this. Some folks predict that the dollar will tank. And after twenty years, it does. They predicted five ‘dead’ dates per year for twenty years. At some point they claim they were right, and it’s true. They just don’t mention they were wrong for close to 100 times first.
Some folks will trash a lot of Trump’s appointees. Almost all will do fine with Trump’s guidance. The one those folks get right, will be their claim to fame. Who cares if 22 of their predictions were wrong.
I’m not going to play that game.
I can’t tell the future, and only Trump knows what promises he demanded and got, and what directions he felt he could give that Romney would more than likely implement without problem.
Trump is nobody’s fool.
Romney does not know Spanish. He is fluent in French.
What is I don't think? 50% sure? 80% sure? In Trumps own words about himself, what is his biggest flaw?
If there was a deal in July, then Mitt should have endorsed Trump.
Defies common sense. The #neverTrumpers remained so right up to the election. Some are still #neverTrumpers even though they have had to go silent in public.
However, I do believe Pence has been pushing a reconciliation with the Romney-Ryan-McConnell-Priebus wing of the party.
coup d'état - French. Just musing.
Almost 100%
Secretary of the Interior, or perhaps Labor.
Doughty was in the NYT crossword recently for “Intrepid.”
My heart says “No Romney”. But as they say, “politics makes for strange bedfellows”.
