10 Reasons Left-Wingers Cut Trump Voters From Their Lives
Townhall.com ^ | November 29, 2016 | Dennis Prager

Many Hillary Clinton voters have ceased communicating with friends, and even family members, who voted for Donald Trump. It is so common that The New York Times published a front-page article on the subject headlined, "Political Divide Splits Relationships -- and Thanksgiving, Too."

The article begins with three stories:

"Matthew Horn, a software engineer from Boulder, Colo., canceled Christmas plans with his family in Texas. Nancy Sundin, a social worker in Spokane, Wash., has called off Thanksgiving with her mother and brother. Ruth Dorancy, a software designer in Chicago, decided to move her wedding so that her fiancé's grandmother and aunt, strong Trump supporters from Florida, could not attend."

The Times acknowledges that this phenomenon is one-sided, saying, "Democrats have dug in their heels, and in some cases are refusing to sit across the table from relatives who voted for President-elect Donald J. Trump."

A number of people who voted for Trump called my show to tell me that their daughters had informed them that they would no longer allow their parents to see their grandchildren. And one man sent me an email reporting that his brother-in-law's mother told him that she "no longer had a son."

All of this raises an obvious question: Why is this phenomenon of cutting off contact with friends and relatives so one-sided? Why don't we hear about conservatives shunning friends and relatives who supported Hillary Clinton? After all, almost every conservative considered Clinton to be ethically and morally challenged. And most believed that another four years of left-wing rule would complete what Barack Obama promised he would do in 2008 if he were elected president -- "fundamentally (transform) the United States of America."

In other words, conservatives were not one whit less fearful of Clinton and the Democrats than Democrats were of Trump and Republicans.

Yet virtually no conservatives cut off contact with friends, let alone parents, who supported Clinton.

Here are 10 reasons left-wingers cut Trump voters from their lives.

1. Just like our universities shut out conservative ideas and speakers, more and more individuals on the left now shut out conservative friends and relatives as well as conservative ideas.

2. Many, if not most, leftists have been indoctrinated with leftism their entire lives.

This is easily shown.

There are far more conservatives who read articles, listen to and watch broadcasts of the left and have studied under left-wing teachers than there are people on the left who have read, listened to or watched anything of the right or taken classes with conservative instructors.

As a result, those on the left really believe that those on the right are all SIXHIRB: sexist, intolerant, xenophobic, homophobic, Islamophobic, racist and bigoted. Not to mention misogynistic and transphobic.

3. Most left-wing positions are emotion-based. That's a major reason people who hold leftist views will sever relations with people they previously cared for or even loved. Their emotions (in this case, irrational fear and hatred) simply overwhelm them.

4. Since Karl Marx, leftists have loved ideas more than people. All Trump voters who have been cut off by children, in-laws and lifelong friends now know how true that is.

5. People on the right think that most people on the left are wrong; people on the left think that most people on the right are evil. Decades of labeling conservative positions as "hateful" and labeling conservative individuals as "sexist," "intolerant," "xenophobic," "homophobic," "racist" and "bigoted" have had their desired effect.

6. The left associates human decency not so much with personal integrity as with having correct -- i.e. progressive -- political positions. Therefore, if you don't hold progressive positions, you lack decency. Ask your left-wing friends if they'd rather their high school son or daughter cheat on tests or support Trump.

7. Most individuals on the left are irreligious, so the commandment "Honor your father and your mother" means nothing to those who have cut off relations with parents because they voted for Trump.

8. Unlike conservatives, politics gives most leftists' lives meaning. Climate change is a good example. For leftists, fighting carbon emissions means saving human existence on Earth. Now, how often does anyone get a chance to literally save the world? Therefore, to most leftists, if you voted for Trump, you have both negated their reason for living and are literally destroying planet Earth. Why would they have Thanksgiving or Christmas with such a person?

9. The left tends toward the totalitarian. And every totalitarian ideology seeks to weaken the bonds between children and parents. The left seeks to dilute parental authority and replace it with school authority and government authority. So when your children sever their bond with you because you voted for Trump, they are acting like the good totalitarians the left has molded.

10. While there are kind and mean individuals on both sides of the political spectrum, as a result of all of the above, there are more mean people on the left than on the right. What other word than "mean" would anyone use to describe a daughter who banished her parents from their grandchildren's lives because of their vote?

I wish none of this were true. But there is a way to prove me wrong: Re-friend your friends and relatives who voted for Trump, and tell everyone who has ended relations with family members -- especially with parents -- to reach out to them and welcome them back into their lives.

It is also christian to be tolerant of others views.

Liberals don’t even tolerate Christians.

And it is American to be free enough to speak your heart.

Liberals are about as free as you could be in Cuba, Venezuela or North Korea...

My favorite hypocritical self-proclaimed lib relative is a niece who lives in one of the “Grosse” towns outside of Detroit, where they have barricades between their real estate and Detroit’s... just love it! Oh, and she is the most self-righteous of them all.

My own daughter comes in second, but at least she lives in a “diverse” neighborhood in DC. With home security, of course ;)

“Liberals are only tolerant skin deep.
Conservatives are tolerant to the bone.”

Exactly.

A lot of flippant comments but here’s a real life instance. Mother voted Trump, daughter voted HRC. Daughter subsequently posts vile comments directed at Mom about the subject on Facebook - when will people get that stuff on the internet is forever? Instant estrangement - and much hurt on Mom’s part. Pray the relationship will heal.

Why are so many democrats are going out of their way to prove with their actions and words that liberalism is a mental disease? Liberals want to to get liberalism certified as an actual mental disorder. Then it will be classified as a disability so they can get social security disability checks. This will bankrupt the social security system, which they will blame on Republicans.

Yes, that is exactly correct. I’ve yet to meet a liberal who couldn’t teach a thing or two about hating all the while making themselves out to be some kind of enlightened, high minded, socially conscious elite.

I had Thanksgiving dinner with my brother and his GF who voted for Shillery. Little politics was discussed, it was fine.

Though what he wrote on Facebook after the election disgusted and disappointed me, he is still my brother.

And the Trump supporters being “cut off” breath a sigh of relief that they no longer feel compelled to continue being polite in the face of the ignorance they have been subjected to....

LOL. Speaking of getting a trophy....

I have a large Trump flag in my office and after the election my oldest son sent me a PARTICIPATION CERTIFICATE with Hillay’s name on it to pin to the flag.

As a rule, I dislike Hillary voters. Why?

1- Most of the ones I’ve met are domineering people who want to use government to control the people around them.

2 - Most believe they poop rose petals.

I don’t have any family or close friends who voted for Hillary. And I’d as soon jump off a cliff as spend Thanksgiving with someone who wanted to browbeat me into ‘accepting a woman’s right to choose’ to kill a kid, or tell me I need to pay even MORE taxes to support her (usually her) living a fulfilling lifestyle on my dime.

To me very simply, leftism takes the place of religion. So, leftism is a religion to liberals. I don't have problems like this, mainly because most of my friends and family are conservative or at the very least, moderates. Also, I am a historical reenactor, and most reenactors, especially the military reenactors are generally conservative. I do try to be extra civilized in arguments and conversations when disagreeing. I realize that in some cases, it is impossible to agree that we will disagree, but I make the effort.

The essence of most of the writer's quite sound points, may be summed up in the fact that American values--those which Conservatives cherish--resulted not from wishful thinking & the cloud-borne wish lists of Leftist theory; but from the generation by generation experiences of the particular settlers, that built Colonial America. In the case of the Founding Fathers, theory followed applied experience. There is a strength in this, for which the Left has no real answer, and is totally embarrassed in any real discussion or debate.

See America--Grounded in Experience & Reason.

then where the hell were YOU all when the Tyrant Obama was oppressing conservatives through the IRS, BLM, and the "Just Us" Dept these last 8 years?

My daughter in law comes from a city dwelling very liberal family. Both her parents favorite candidate is Dennis Kuchinich (sp). They are divorced and treat my DIL like shit, the mother did not even come to her wedding!! I wanted to tell my DIL, is that common for democrats, to not come to their own daughters wedding because of who she is marrying, a Christian?

Her Father posted on facebook, "should I be scared of going to jail if I speak ill of Trump?" I blasted him with Obama using the IRS to quell speech by conservatives and not only that but when Catholic Nuns spoke against distributing abortion pills for their employees, Obama sued them all the way to the Supreme Court. I said, for a POTUS to mount a lawsuit against Little Sisters of the Poor, because they disagreed with Obama's speech, he should have never been President of our Christian America."

Of course I was unfriended and deleted. Easier that way than engage in a grown up conversation.

If they do, they are Hypocrites, especially of they ban you from their Homes.

But they will just blather on about nations not being like homes.

So - no matter who won the election, we should just be thankful.

I am most thankful to God who has given us a 4 year reprieve from the evil that is consuming this nation.

I think another reason conservative Christians don't get depressed when a Marxist wins, is we know we have won the war. Its over, the victor has been revealed, we just need a few more good men to find out about it.

Like my husband says, a very good man of God, when I complain about Obama or worse, "they are just walking bags of dirt, pick them up and shake them and their dust falls to the ground from whence it came, they have this short life on earth and then die."

I realized about 20 years ago who was worth of my attention in my life & who was NOT.

The WAS NOTs were mostly very Liberal-—or worse—not informed at all & didn’t vote, but they sure could bitch alot about the state of affairs in the country.

I started just eliminating them from my life. IF someone called to go to dinner-—I said I already had plans—maybe next time. I quit going on even short trips with them because they couldn’t get out of their own mire with more education & more effort to improve their lives.

I found that I could enjoy my own company without hassles & it also left me more time to find & cultivate friendships with Conservatives.

For the fast few years, I have been more attuned to what people say & I veer away from the Liberals & all their giddiness about giving away taxpayer money. Sometimes I remind them that THEY are free to donate to any cause they find worthy, but it isn’t fair to make ALL the taxpayers support what they feel is important. I sure get some looks!!!

Even relatives. I only deal with those who would vote Trump for the next 100 years. One cousin called on Nov 10 & asked ‘Are you still dancing on the ceiling?” Sure was & AM.

Meanwhile, life is FAR less complicated!!!

PS: I also learned to NOT date any person who was a die hard Union member. Too much of an entitlement mentality & too easily led by the nose by the Union officials. I have been self-employed since 1980, and I won’t work a Union job.
