Well, what can you say about Elian Gonzalez today? He was raised with communist propaganda, and lives in a police state. What else can he say? He certainly can’t be critical of Castro.

Maybe someday, when Cuba becomes free, Elian will be able to learn to think freely, and will appreciate the sacrifice his mother made to try to get him to freedom all those years ago.

I guess he’s ignorant of those facts...or purposefully ignoring them as he’s not unexpectedly being used as a political prop

The Daily News is really striving to top the journalistic standards set by Pravda, I see.

Did Elian know he was solely used for propaganda purposes? Without having been in the USA, he would have been just another kid in the cane fields.

Elian was doomed as soon as the Clintoons returned him to Papa Fidel. The most evil thing they ever did.

Maybe he’s hoping to be in Fidel’s will

****Does Elian know fidel died being the 7th richest man in the world?****

Power and profit. Who else comes to mind?

That is why we need term limits and Trump’s legislation on ‘no lobbying by elected officials’ after leaving office. Their salaries and retirement benefits should be reduced as well - that way we will know they are really committed to ‘public service’ and the Constitution.

I could care less about Elian Gonzalez at this moment in time.

However....someday, if not sooner, he'll realize he can cash in big time if he comes to the states and becomes a lefty TV celebrity....and we'll see him making big bucks on the Beltway media and speechifyin' circuit.

It’s a shame Fidel didn’t live long enough for Elian to fall out of favor with him so Elian could learn what his mother died trying to protect him from.

It’s easy to be “everybody’s friend” when you kill everyone you disagree with. After awhile none of them are left.

Doesn’t Elian realize if Castro was “everyone’s friend” there would not be people constantly trying to flee the island? At 22, you would think he would have some reasoning skills.

” sparking an international custody dispute “

Wrong. The media hyped this so much, 24/7, that the country was divided: those who wanted him sent back (lefties) and those who wanted him to stay (righties).

There was no good solution. My choice would have been to send him back to his one remaining parent.

The media knows immediately when an issue is capable of dividing the country. Teri Schiavo. Remember that? 24/7. Obsession. My solution would have been to put her in custody of her parents who were willing to take care of her, rather than withhold food and water to kill her.

So many of the poor slobs in the Gulags were sure that if only Stalin knew they shouldn’t be there he’d rescue them.

This is just sad. I saw Elian yesterday on German TV. He was laughing and smiling as he recalled fond memories of his good buddy Fidel. Poor Elian apparently has no idea that he was little more than a pawn in Castro’s propaganda machine. Pathetic. And a disgrace to the memory of his mother. I hope that someday this poor misguided young man learns the truth.

Yes, he went willingly back to Cuba... Clinton's made a deal with Castro to return him. Another of Janet Reno's greatest hits.

So, the fate of Elian Gonzalez is exactly what we FReepers all predicted (and feared) it would be.

[And one more crime in the scales against the judgement of Reno and the Clintons.]
