Much of the commentary about Kellyanne Conway’s Meet the Press appearance this morning has focused on her criticism of the prospect of Mitt Romney as Secretary of State. We’ll discuss that in a “Note” below but would like to highlight a striking statement by Chuck Todd that immediately preceded the Romney discussion.
Todd was grilling Conway over potential conflicts between Trump’s business interests and his role as president. Conway eventually had enough, and observed “I went back and looked at what all the press clips and the conversations on shows like this eight years ago. It was basically debating just how cool Barack Obama is. . . . if we’re not going to do that about President-elect Trump, we should at the very least trust him to do the right thing and comply with the law here.”
A visibly annoyed Todd shot back: “I understand. Every knee-jerk pushback is going to be to blame the media. It’s a crutch. I get it. And I’m used to it. But it’s not the fact.”

Media strategy — be grossly unfair in an unrelenting fashion while the Trump team says “You’re being grossly unfair” and then eventually the media can respond with “But you always say that! It’s a crutch!” and then the media can continue to be grossly unfair in an unrelenting fashion.
Meanwhile, Barack continues to be ultra cool!!!
The criticism is appropriate and well deserved.

There seems to be a developing liberal meme out there, to the effect that Trump has all these business conflicts of interest, and how will be separate being president from running his businesses, etc.
Some have pointed out how peanut warehouse businessman/farmer Jimmy Carter, put his assets and businesses in a blind trust when he was president.
Granted there is a large difference in scope and business interests between Trump and Jimmy Carter’s farming and peanut warehouse business.
Did any in the media speculate, that if Hillary became president, the Clinton foundation and her speechraking in the dollars would present the Clintons with conflicts of interest???

Obama lied about his association with Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, etc. Was never called out by the media for it. Total double standard here.
