The Department of Defense released an official directive last week to allow U.S. military personnel to request permission to carry concealed handguns for protection at government facilities.
The directive came in response to a series of deadly shootings at military sites in recent years. Domestic military bases need no longer be gun-free zones, a change the department has been working on for several years.

Whatever did, the odds of their being another one who manages to multiply carnage like that has just dived.
Does that include on the battlefield?
Obummer will likely stop this until Jan 20. (asshole)
I hope it’s true. If it isn’t, Trump should make it a priority.
About time, indeed.
That sounds crazy... but aren’t there situations now where troops could be using crew-served weapons but with no personal weapons?
I mean crazy that they wouldn’t be armed on a battlefield

Sounds like he’s already been stopped. With the time remaining, he couldn’t even find out who is responsible for the change. And my bet is that the DoD can’t wait to see him waive goodbye from the doorway of AF-1.
I think the story is true because I have seen it from other sources.
Now, I see problems with it. The problems are that it is “may issue” at the commander’s discretion, and that it only applies to officers above a fairly high rank.
My belief is that Obama is behind it as a minimal way to arm people on our bases, without really getting enough weapons into general carry to really improve safety. And to try to head off Trump who wants a much broader carry policy.
I don’t think this policy would have helped against Nidal Hasan.
I hope Trump expands it greatly.
It is a bureaucratic head fake in an attempt to avoid Trump fulfilling his promise.

No one who writes these stories knows what is involved when an enlisted person makes a “request” of this level of importance. But I’m glad that there is nominally a pathway now. But I can’t wait to see the amount of hoop jumping that will be required for an E5 or below to have this request approved.
They are already denying officers.
You dishonor and offend all good, functioning, reliable assholes when you compare them to Barky Obama, or him to them. Several times per 24 hour cycle I have occasion to appreciate mine. Is there something else to call him? Lying bastard comes to mind.
No one wants to have a problem before DJT would have signed an EO on Jan 20.
Reminds me of the hoops I was required to go though to request permission to buy a motorcycle, and to get married, even as an E-5. If I hadn't just turned 21, I'd even have to get a permission slip from mom & dad. As it was the Commander still send them a letter advising them how dangerous a motorcycle was.
However, Enlisting for four years at age 18, and volunteering for Vietnam was no problem, for those I was an adult.
>>Reminds me of the hoops I was required to go though to request permission
I remember those hoops too well. The civilian clothes chit (required counseling to learn how to properly wear civvies), the beard chit (required a checkup at 2 weeks to evaluate whether the beard was good enough), the marriage chit, the motorcycle chit, the dangerous sports chit (for rugby), etc.
I would carry anyway! F**K Obama!!!
