Base commanders have always had the right to arm whomever they specified. This is a change for the worse, sold as an answer. No one should believe anything from any person involved in the current administration and military chain of command. They are all political hacks and cowards.

One hundred percent correct! Base commanders are the most risk averse individuals I have ever seen, no way they would approve anyone. Plus, check this out:

Permissions granted under this section do not apply to carrying a firearm within federal buildings unless the arming authority specifically determines, after consultation with servicing legal counsel and in accordance with applicable DoD policy, that an appropriate exception under Section 930(d) of Title 18, U.S.C. applies.

Legal counsel will never approve, and in this day and age how many DoD employees don't enter a federal building in the course of their duties?

I was a volunteer at Walter Reed with the Fort Hood shooter. I have a friend whose husband was killed at the Naval Yard shooting in 2013.

Our bases should be fully armed. Who in the hell decided we shouldn’t be???
