Deutsch: Someone ‘Very High Up’ in Trump Circle Says Prospect of Romney as SecState ‘Very Real’
Legal Insurrection ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Say what you will about Donny Deutsch, but the man-about-Manhattan and the Hamptons moves in the Trump social circle and is well-connected there.

So attention must be paid to Deutsch’s declaration on today’s With All Due Respect. Asked by Mark Halperin whether the talk about Romney being considered for Secretary of State is “real, whether Romney might end up with the job,” Deutsch responded: “somebody very, very, very high up in the inner [Trump] circle yesterday told me it was very, very real,” and that this person was “very excited about it.”

Well, it does continue a long tradition, doesn’t it?

As long as Gov. Romney supports President Trump’s foreign policy this could be a very good choice. Romney is clean and honest, unlike Clinton, and, along with his wife, would make a good diplomat. I implicitly trust Donald Trump’s judgement in this case.

Trump is reaching out to his rivals, to stop the bleeding. He’s NOT the first president to do so.

“In Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln, Doris Kearns Goodwin explores the extraordinary array of personal qualities that allowed Lincoln first to appoint, then to win over, men who had previously opposed him, and reveals how Lincoln’s bold and brilliant actions helped him steer the country through its darkest days.

I don’t believe that Trump would actually pick Romney for such an important position—or anyone for that matter who called him a “fraud” and a bunch of other insults that undermine his credibility as president. It would be a slap in the face to his supporters. I think Trump is meeting with him just to put their feud behind them and to help unify the party, while he has more important things to attend to.

somebody very, very, very high up in the inner [Trump] circle yesterday told me it was very, very real

Look At Me - Look At Me! says Donny Duuufus. Seriously - think of those who would be very3 high up in the inner circle and then think if any of those people would use the phrase very, very real. Aint nobody very3 high up in the inner circle talking to this tool.

Agreed, maybe fix VA, or czar to bring back manufacturing but not SOS. I think Rudy has to get that, but again if Rudy doesn’t get it, who does? ? Thiel? Huckabee? Someone unknown conservative academic? Jerry Falwell from Liberty, Franklin Graham!

I’m aware of Bolton’s prickly nature and not advocating him for the position. I’m just pointing out that I would expect Trump to go for “balls” in a SOS, and whatever else one can say about Bolton, he is not lacking in that department. He just came immediately to mind as a possible choice. Romney is sharp, but it’s never sat well with me that he backed off 0bama when he had him down with the presidency at stake. As much as it can be argued that a Bolton is too aggressive, I wonder if Romney lacks the killer instinct to roll an opponent when necessary.

If Mitt Romney is a big enough man to sincerely apologize for his shameful behavior, I'd consider finding a place for him in my administration if I was Donald Trump

The only person that high up in Trump’s circle is Trump.

Let’s just pray it doesn’t happen.

Yeah, if anyone was excited about this, it must be Priebus, and by proxy Paul Rino.

So when Romney meets with world leaders and they ask him if Trump is really as crazy as they think, how is he going to defend Trump credibly after calling him a wack job during his #nevertrump movement?

Romney is the first mainstream Mormon who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that’s a storybook, man.

I trust Trump to either hire Romney because he can be loyal, or just move on to someone else. I’m not second guessing him. So far he’s packing his team with people no other GOP president-elect would.

“...he openly worked very hard to defeat Donald Trump. But if Trump can find a real use for him, why not use him?”

Are you daft or what? The man HATES Trump! The main reason he should not even be considered is due to a little thing called TRUST. He can’t be TRUSTED!

Hard to believe Romney would even go meet with Trump given his hostility and disdain of Trump, and determined efforts to undermine and bring down his candidacy. What does that say about Romney’s own personal integrity?

Been seeing the stories - Trump’s strength is largely that he’s pragmatic and able to keep from being ruled by his emotions. If he chooses Mittens, many of us will be scratching our heads - and some of the weaker will require therapy), but it will likely be a smart decision.

I’d be devastated.

Go back to college and they'll coddle you.

As of now it's all rumors, if Trump decides that Mittens will be useful, then he'll become useful or end up on the curb.

Note to self: FR has its share of Snowflakes...
