Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama is about to face a wave of intense scrutiny as he seeks confirmation to become attorney general and head the Justice Department in President-elect Donald Trump's upcoming administration.
Trump said Friday that it was an "honor to nominate" a "world-class legal mind" to the position. Sessions said, should he be confirmed, that he will give "all my strength to advance" its "highest ideals" and will be dedicated to "fairness and impartiality."
But Sessions is likely to face heavy examination over his overall record, as well as decades-old allegations of racism that are now certain to be hashed out in public.
Sessions, prior to his 20-year Senate career, served as a US attorney and as attorney general of Alabama. While serving as a US attorney for the state's southern district, he was nominated to be a federal district court judge by President Ronald Reagan in 1986.
His nomination, however, was rejected by the Republican-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee a committee on which he now serves because of racially charged comments and actions that he denied. It was only the second time in nearly 50 years the committee stunted a judicial nomination.

Agreed. It is a worthy fight.
Kill it. Kill it dead.
Jeff Sessions is an outstanding individual. BI is a Liberal rag.
This assumes Sessions was a racist or fan of the KKK in the first place. Be careful.
Uh, Harry Reid ended the filibuster for all but SCOTUS nominees. Sorry, Harry.
Literally in 1865.
Figuratively in November 2016.
The Democratic Party has always been, and still is, the plantation party.
There is no baggage hanging over his head.
If we eventually devolve into a Civil War, the treasonist MSM must be the very first project. The corrupt media bastards are trying to kill this country and ruin the lives of the real patriots.
Let’s face it, the Dems and media will attack every member of this administration as racist or some other trumped up charge (pun intended).
Sorry guys, the race card has expired. That’s one thing the election was about. Try it and see.
Here is the story. Dems just making up charges same as now:
In Alabama, Jeff Sessions Desegregated Schools and Got the Death Penalty for KKK Head

Come on, CNN. That's all you've got? We've heard it. We don't believe it. It's boring. It's cliché. It's stale. It's ineffective.
“I do not like this nomination.”
No one is twisting his arm. Sessions wants the job and believes he will be successful in cleaning out the vermin in the Justice Department. Trump agrees.
Changing course at Justice is more valuable to the future of our country than being one of a hundred making speeches and holding hearings in DC.

He was by their definition. Changing their definition is usually impossible. Leading them to a different conclusion is realistic.
Most of the unending arguments (and real-life unfriending) I’ve seen are because people disagree on premise/definitions but argue implications/conclusions without realizing where the real disagreement is. It would have been different to realize the issue and go back to the premise/definition to continue the debate. If we can’t at least understand each other’s premise we will never understand what comes from it.
In this case I think it’s possible to stipulate a definition (without agreeing), but still have a useful discussion of the conclusion. We know/understand the premise here even if we disagree with it. And I think it’s possible to change minds without changing their definition of “racist” (which won’t likely happen).
Arlen Specter derailed Sessions’ nomination to the federal courts.
F’em
Lefty Ameriphobes must be ostracized every where all the time
They are not Americans
First Bannon, and now the race baiters target Sessions.
The race card; don’t leave home without it!
Who cares what he might or might not have said years ago. He is the bestest of the best and should be supported by all HONEST people.
So what? After the last two AG’s, racial favoritism is almost a tradition.

Truly a seasoned journalist with that sort of deep background.
