Because I frequently wake up at a depressingly early hour I sometimes wind up catching the replays of late night cable news hosts. That was the case today, and when I first tuned in I became concerned that some sort of constitutional crisis was engulfing the nation. Something had happened involving Donald Trump and he had disappeared. Oh no! What could it be?
As it turns out, Trump’s traveling press corps had been given the full lid signal last night as the President Elect settled in at Trump Tower. After they cleared out, the First Family in waiting decided to go out for a steak dinner at a nearby eatery. Yes, this was the crisis of the day. (The Hill)
Donald Trump left Trump Tower without his press pool on Tuesday to have dinner with his family, according to reporters.
The president-elect reportedly received a standing ovation and cheers upon arriving at 21 Club, a New York City restaurant, an hour after his spokeswoman had called a “lid,” signaling to the reporters following him that he was in for the night.
Spokeswoman Hope Hicks said she “wasn’t aware of this movement,” adding she wouldn’t do anything to “leave the press in the dark.”
So Trump ate dinner with his wife and children. Now, you might be wondering why this is so awful. (I know I certainly was.) It’s apparently a terrible violation of protocol, you see. No… I didn’t make that one up myself. It’s a quote from Sam Stein.

I ALWAYS invite the media when I go to a steakhouse, and they never show up. What gives?
Reminds me of the Kennedy visit to SE Asia. When Jackie went into some temple, and had to take off her shoes, the reporter got the view of the day! HE looked inside the shoe, saw the SHOE SIZE and reported it.
What's notable to me here is that President-elect Trump apparently didn't kick out all the other diners at the restaurant. In fact on local radio it's being reported that the diners gave him a standing ovation.
What a contrast to what Obama did whenever he and Michelle wanted to eat out. The Secret Service not only towed away all cars parked near the restaurant (with no forewarning to the owners), but they kicked out all other diners who were enjoying their meals.
It may be understandable that the Secret Service thought these measures were necessary. What wasn't necessary, however, was for the imperious Barack and Michelle to impose themselves in the first place, just to gratify a whim for gourmet food in some trendy spot.
Trump should limit MSM access to a three-person (just to allow some r&r) pool, kind of like how pool reporters were used in combat zones. All the MSM write the same stories from the same angle anyway.

Given we know that the MSM is now a branch of the Democratic National Committee, President-Elect Trump (gawd, how I love that phrase!) blowing you off actually has the support of the majority of American people.
Trump has a lot of nerve, having dinner with his family and not inviting the media to film every bite and search for the worst possible images from the meal. Surely that snub will turn the tide and voters will ask for a do-over.
Hillary ditched the press when she had her seizure on 11 Sep 2016, Obama has done so repeatedly, while he is POTUS.

Obama Ditches His Media Admirers Again
Seems to be a recurring pattern here. Though I’m figuring Obama had himself a secret golf engagement to scurry to or something.
Holed up with seven other global leaders in the woods of Muskoka, Canada, President Barack Obama gave the White House press corps the slip last night.
The president is attending the G-8 and G-20 summits with his global counterparts this weekend. The G-8 began yesterday in Muskoka in Huntsville, Ont., and ends today. The G-20 is in Toronto, about 150 miles away, and starts this afternoon.

President Obama “quietly breached years of protocol” Saturday by leaving the White House with no press pool, according to The Associated Press.
Before members of the press were scheduled to assemble for the day’s pool, Obama left the White House to, according to aides, attend one of his daughter’s soccer games. From AP:

It is very important for reporters to watch exactly how Trump eats a steak.
I’d think Trump went out of his way to make disruption be a minimum. As diners with reservations arrived, he asked the SS to accommodate them. Donald is a noble VIP, not a stuck up one.
