Donald Trump has taken the unprecedented step of requesting his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, receive top-secret clearance to join him for his Presidential Daily Briefings, which began Tuesday.
Multiple sources tell NBC News Trump received his first briefing on Tuesday and designated both Kushner and Ret. Gen. Michael Flynn as his staff-level companions for the briefings going forward.
While Flynn has the necessary security clearance, Kushner does not, and it could take weeks or even longer for him to receive it.

WHY DOESN'T ANYONE IN TRUMP'S INNER CIRCLE KNOW THIS AND/OR TELL HIM ?
You are utterly wrong, no...damned dead WRONG about this!
Just because Trump's family members have clearances doesn't mean that suddenly they're going to be privy to every bit of secret information out there. It's still a "need to know" basis. I'm sure the close family members of past presidents were often investigated for clearances. It's only newsworthy now because it's Trump.
Roger Clinton probably had a damn security clearance. Doesn't mean anything.
His father is a felon.
His BFF from childhood is Chelsea Clinton's husband, whose father is also a felon.
Jared has less than NO political experience, outside of his help in running Trump's campaign. Outside of that and being married to Ivanka, the 35 year old knows nothing about politics, geo-politics, etc.!
And you know me...if I'm very unhappy about this, it stinks on ice!
The rules on nepotism prevent Jared from being paid from public funds.
As the new President will be paid $1 a year, I don’t think Jared is going to be on payroll.
Jared helped Trump via digital messaging ( TWEETING ), which is a VERY different thing from running the government of this nation! And Ivanka has some lefty ideas...who knows WHAT Jared has talked Trump into in the past?
They also prevent him from holding a cabinet position and from some other positions too. Look it up.
“Despite reports suggesting the contrary, a transition team official says Donald Trump did not request or begin paperwork to have his children gain top-level security clearance, according to a pool report.”
Is this the pertinent law?
5 U.S. Code § 3110 - Employment of relatives; restrictions
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/5/3110
In which case Jared could be appointed to a cabinet position (if that was the plan). He just couldn’t be paid.
And as Donald himself is going to be on $1 a year, payment is probably not going to be an issue.
Is there another pertinent piece of law on this in addition to
5 U.S. Code § 3110 - Employment of relatives; restrictions ?
Because 5 U.S. Code § 3110 allows for employment without pay.
This whole story is simply a media assault. If Donald is seeking such clearance it certainly should not be being discussed publicly.
There are big information leaks and I strongly suspect the Obama White Hut is purposely, and illegally leaking such info to the press, who are a wholly owned subsidiary of the Democrat party.
This is swamp gas.
Drain the swamp.
I heard someone say they might want clearances just to help look at resumes etc during the transition. Does this make sense?
Thanks for the link.
The whole thing turns out to be a mare’s nest caused by bad reporting. Something for us to be mindful of in future.
Yes...I don’t know the name of the Bill nor the E#, but igt was put in place to stop any other president to do what JFK did with Bobby.
Hopefully this is just a rumor.
I have no idea how old any of the posters are who are on this thread, claiming that it’s okay, but I was old enough and have an exceptional memory, to remember when the Congress made it impossible for any other president to do what JFK did, re Bobby.
As far as I can find out (thank you internet!) the Federal Anti-Nepotism Statute is indeed ‘5 U.S. Code § 3110 - Employment of relatives; restrictions’.
From that it looks like Trump could - could! - put his entire family in the Cabinet. He just couldn’t put them on public payroll.
Interesting side note:
Under President Clinton: Hillary was appointed chair of the Presidential Health Care Reform Task Force.
As long as she wasn’t paid, this wasn’t a breach of statute.
Of course - this being the Clintons - I bet she found her way onto payroll.
