Dukakis to Dems: Ending Electoral College ‘top’ priority
thehill.com ^ | 11/13/16 | Mark Hensch

Former Democratic presidential nominee Michael Dukakis says his party must do everything in its power to abolish the Electoral College.

“Hillary won this election, and when all the votes are all counted, by what will likely be more than a million votes,” he wrote of the Democratic presidential nominee in an email to Politico Sunday.

ADVERTISEMENT “So how come she isn’t going to the White House in January?” the 1988 Democratic standard-bearer asked. "Because of an anachronistic Electoral College system that should have been abolished 150 years ago.

“That should be at the top of the Democratic priority list while we wait to see what a Trump administration has in store for us. So far, all we know is that dozens of lobbyists are all over the Trump transition -- a strange way to drain the swamp.”

No, its not treason. Relax. It is childish and totally unrealistic. Its not going to happen, but it’s all they’ve got.

There's a process to do this ... but that's not what the Socialist Democrats want to use because they'll never get the votes of the many states (even if they were somehow able to get the proposed amendment to the Constitution through Congress).

No, what they want is to go around the Constitution ... for some judge to rule that the EC is "unfair" or "unConstitutional". Alternatively, they'd like to have the states make the end-run around our Constitution ... by requiring their electors to vote according to the national tally and to ignore how the "dumb voters" in their state voted. This by itself would mark the end of our Constitutional Republic.

Yes, and when Republicans won in a landslide, the Democrats deny it is a mandate. Yet, if they win by ONE vote, they have a mandate. Wei

“Having said that, I would be perfectly happy if 48 States would follow the lead of Maine and Nebraska and allocate their electors based on their congressional districts. This would force the candidates to wage national campaigns and not the regional campaigns that we see today.”

Amen!

Since states are required by the Federal Government to standardize driver’s licenses, Why not require by Federal Law a notation denoting NON-CITIZENSHIP. This would quickly shut off vote fraud in states that require Photo ID. Separate Local and State elections permanently. Then require photo ID for all Federal Elections.

If Electors had been assigned by how the Congressional Districts voted in past elections, we would probably find a totally differ party in power after many past elections.

Voter Fraud and skulduggery would be isolated to large urban areas. California would have never assigned all 53 electoral votes to Hillary.

Campaigns would be to all American citizens, not driven by bought for and paid for voter drives in large metropolitan areas.

Without the Electoral College a party's nominee would focus almost exclusively on safe States, trying to squeeze out as many votes from them as possible. This would further polarize the country. Swing States would pretty much be ignored.

Fortunately, we don't need to worry about the Electoral College being abolished. There is no chance three-fourths (38) of the States would ratify such an amendment, assuming two-thirds of each House of Congress was stupid enough to make such a proposal.

All ballots cast in accord with the law are counted, at least officially. No state admits leaving valid votes uncounted. That’s why it usually takes several weeks at least to certify vote totals.

A lot of absentee/mail-in ballots fail to meet requirements, and that has lead to a lot of people jumping to wrong conclusions.

I say give it to them, in exchange for (1) ironclad voter ID laws that become part of the Constitution (along with support to deport illegal aliens and defund sanctuary cities), (2) a changed 2nd Amendment that indicates that long and handguns for the purposes of self defense, and protection of the state (remove the militia language or make it a separate amendment), along with interstate concealed carry reciprocity, are constitutional rights, and (3) that religious freedom trumps any diversity regulations. Otherwise, HELL NO.

I think it is time to step up in the spirit of bipartisan ship and shove some stuff up the Democrats “a*$es”

Seriously, we should be able to work on and trade for things we value as well, otherwise the Dem's should STFU.

That is what I keep telling these losers. The electoral college protects the smaller population states.

Do you think there would be enough of them to commit suicide?

“Dumb voters” is exactly why the founders put in the EC in the first place. They really did not trust the unwashed masses. They don ‘t even mention a popular vote in the Constitution.

Dukakis? I thought he was dead.

One of our biggest jobs will be to fix the voting sysmen in the US. Immediately.

And shore up support for the electoral college.

TRANSLATION;

We, the democrats, cannot win fair-and-square, so we need to devise another method to adulterate the elections.
