Speaking on Sunday morning with immigration minister Peter Dutton, Turnbull confirmed reports refugees on Nauru and Manus Island would be offered a one-off deal to live in the US. “The agreement is with the United States,” Turnbull said.
“It is a one-off agreement. It will not be repeated. It is only available to those currently in the regional processing centres. It will not be available to any persons who seek to reach Australia in the future.” The agreement will prioritise resettling women, children and families on Nauru. There are currently 1,313 people in offshore detention on Nauru and Manus Island.

They are Muslim refugees, mostly from Afghanistan. They tried to get to Australia by boat but were turned away.
Hey, I agree with Trump we should NOT be the police force for the world, NOR SHOULD WE BE THE SANCTUARY FOR THE WORLD. Australia was having a problem with migrants washing up on their shores and put them in barbed wire enclosures over there...it’s their problem to deal with, not ours.

Point 1: These people are NOT refugees, they are illegal alien invaders to Aus. They make it sound like they are seeking political asylum which they are not.
This HAS to be a joke. Who passed this? If it was another one of the resident Muslim’s executive orders, this one definitely should be shredded. Australia has no business wanting to dump these people on our soil. We have enough “wretched refuse” to last the next hundred years.

Australia won’t take them because they are illegal immigrants, and Australia does not want the example that you can try to crash the border, and they will eventually let you in.

First of all, these people have been judged to be genuine refugees. Australia sets very strict standards on assessing people as genuine refugees, among the strictest in the world. While mistakes are possible, they are unusual.
The reason they will not be resettled in Australia is that even though they have been judged to be genuine refugees, they attempted to enter Australia unlawfully by boat. Australia has a policy that no person who attempts to come unlawfully by boat will be permitted to settle here under any circumstances, even if they are found to be a genuine refugee. The reason for this is to encourage those who do have a genuine case for asylum to go through the correct channels - no refugee comes to Australia without passing through other safe nations (most often Indonesia at the very least). They are supposed to wait in those nations while those claims are assessed - not continue onwards to another nation. There are a few reasons Australia discourages that - the first is that when we didn't, we had a massive influx of people - since the policy was introduced, it's fallen to very low levels. The second is purely humanitarian - the sea crossing is dangerous and when people were doing this, large numbers were drowning.
If people try to come here unlawfully by boat, they are placed in offshore processing facilities (like that in Nauru) and their claims are assessed. If they are not genuine refugees, they are deported. The issue is what to do with those who are genuine refugees. Australia has a legal responsibility to resettle them - but bringing them to Australia would be disastrous for our border protection - so Australia seeks to send them to other nations that will accept them.
The United States has a policy (as most nations do) of accepting a certain number of genuine refugees each year. That's a fact. They have to come from somewhere. While, as I've said I understand why people don't like this and I wouldn't support it if I was an American, the fact is by taking these people, the US is filling part of the quota on refugees your government has chosen to put in place, with people have been subjected to an unusually high level of vetting to determine they are both genuine refugees and not dangerous. And the US remains fully entitled to vet them again.
Yes, I'm sure the Obama administration is agreeing to this now as a middle finger to the incoming Trump administration - but the Australian government would be stupid not to take advantage of the United States agreeing to this.

I agree with almost everything you said and I know about Aus policy and their reasoning. These people may have been judged refugees by Aus, that doesn’t mean they are refugees by U.S. standards. We have refugee quotas too, none of that matters to Obama. The standards are out the window. People are being allowed refugee status from friendly countries on the flimsiest grounds. Under Obama we have no standards and are under full assault by illegal invaders, thus Trump.
America can still reject any of these refugees who do not meet American standards. This deal does not require the US to accept anybody they do not want to. I can understand the concern that under the current administration the standards may not be being applied but just for the record, the US can still refuse any of these individuals.

And I thought about it, under current law, I guess we’d have to take them.
However the phrase: “take advantage of the United States”
irks me and the other 65 million Trump voters, especially from an “ally”.
No offense intended, just trying to communicate the mood of this country.
