Sanctuary cities are a case of frog boiling. They popped up one-by-one while no one was noticing; and now there's no easy way to stop it. If the city council of the first sanctuary city had been put on trial for aiding and abetting a foreign invasion, and the full punishment for treason had been administered, this might have been nipped in the bud.
