Friday on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends,” Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) was optimistic about the prospects of President-elect Donald Trump being able to follow through with his campaign promises of a border wall.
Gohmert told “Fox & Friends” co-host Steve Doocy that there has been money already appropriated for the wall and that he was excited about the prospects of Trump “actually following the law.”
“It’s amazing what you can get Congress to do when you lead and push them in the right direction,” Gohmert said. “And actually, you know, we had appropriated money during the Bush administration that didn’t get spent for the wall. So, yeah, it’s going to be great to have somebody that’s actually following the law.”

What happened to Mexico paying for it?
IIRC, the enabling legislation included massive environmental impact waivers that have already held up in court.

Those three seem to be happening. Trump is likely to start well. I pray that he can stay focused and will have a team tough enough to fight congressional bloat. “You know, the Trump Train is still out there. I would not want to be the one who obstructed that priority and have to face them in 2018.” Trump needs an enforcer to bully legislators, and he needs a seducer to court Congress. “Perhaps you and your wife would like to have dinner at the White House, socializing with a few European ambassadors for the evening, with only a few minutes set aside to discuss Trump Administration priorities.”

Building can begin Day 1. Reimbursement from Mexico can happen a couple of days later.
I’m sure it will come from a variety of sources - such as seized cartel money. I’m surprised money was set aside and wasn’t spent. Then there is Mexico. They will be contributing by either fees on things or other ways.

The wall alone won’t do it — but it’s part of the solution. We ALSO need a major increase in the Border Patrol and ICE, fencing, other barriers, and electronic monitoring. We need to do whatever it takes to secure our borders as much as humanly possible. That is one of the primary responsibilities of the Federal government.
I think he wants to get it going ASAP...but the Mexican funding is still very much the plan. Kris Kobach (Secretary of State, KS) is on the transition team, and just a few days ago, he was on the news explaining how the US could stop wire transfers to Mexico, and force their hand.
But I love the symbolism of getting things done, right away.

Exactly. Trump was never going to wait for that money to accumulate to build the wall. I think he must have known already that the money was there. We’re seeing the savvy come out already.

Spend that money on our Vets
Mexico will be more than happy to pay for the wall. It will also give several million re-patriated nationals something to do.
