Former "Dirty Jobs" host Mike Rowe says that Donald Trump is president-elect for the same reason that his show was a huge success: both Mr. Trump and "Dirty Jobs" paid attention to an America that feels ignored.
Dirty Jobs didnt resonate because the host was incredibly charming, Rowe wrote in a lengthy Facebook post. It wasnt a hit because it was gross, or irreverent, or funny, or silly, or smart, or terribly clever. Dirty Jobs succeeded because it was authentic. It spoke directly and candidly to a big chunk of the country that non-fiction networks had been completely ignoring. In a very simple way, Dirty Jobs said Hey - we can see you, to millions of regular people who had started to feel invisible. Ultimately, thats why Dirty Jobs ran for eight seasons. And today, thats also why Donald Trump is the President of the United States.
He went on to explain that he is saddened to see so many of these forgotten, hardworking Americans who supported Donald Trump be labeled as racists, xenophobes, or uneducated misogynists.
These two candidates were the choices we gave ourselves, and each came with a heaping helping of vulgarity and impropriety. Yeah, it was dirty job for sure, but the winner was NOT decided by a racist and craven nation it was decided by millions of disgusted Americans desperate for real change. The people did not want a politician. The people wanted to be seen. Donald Trump convinced those people that he could see them. Hillary Clinton did not.

Not only ignoring but denigrating and mocking. Constantly being told that they & their ancestors are evil. That what they believe in is not only invalid but horrific.
Got a lot of respect for Mike Rowe. And, yes, he NAILED IT!
Sounds like an awesome dad and you have good memories to cherish. May he Rest In Peace.
She has that in common with 90% of the population. They have no idea where their food or energy comes from.
So you speak Mexican? It's different from Spanish.
Our 14 yo grandson wanted to learn to weld. Fortunately for him, my husband is an engineer and experienced welder. So, every Saturday that he has available, our grandson is in the garage with my husband, welding or bending metal. :-)
Back in 12, after watching the Tea Party and noting that Mittens was exactly the wrong man for the time, I mused that Mike Rowe would make an excellent presidential candidate for our side. Straight talking, sense of humor, and immensely likable. He oozes good judgement, which is all we really need in a POTUS. I think we’ve all had it with being Grubered by the powers that be, we need someone who speaks to us with respect, not condescension. And I think we finally got one.
Very cool!
ditto..... My grandson was curious about my silver fabrication bench.
I gave him a hammer, some copper sheet and he began to beat the crap out of it. By the end of the first day he had fashioned a bowl which he then endlessly polished on the polishing wheel.
Earlier, I had a 11 year old kid that wanted to work on the Metals merit badge. His greatest desire was to get an anvil. He asked me and others if we had an unwanted spare he could have.
Not a big TV watcher but I loved that show. Along with COPS, another show the “elite” love to look down their noses on.
LOL! My dad has one. When he was young, he got tired of having to hire a ferrier every time his horse threw a shoe, and decided to learn the trade himself. Then other riders starting having him shoe their horses. It was a good sideline business and got him outdoors. He’s 79 now, and doesn’t do that anymore. He still has the equipment, but it’s now just part of the “ambiance” of his man cave.
I know about 3 words.
Jefe? Yea, I want to talk to your boss and he always speaks english
A big BUMP!
Who remembers that video of that Santa Cruz City Council meeting way back in 2008?:
“We need the food, because it’s food and stuff...”
“On the East Coast, they have slaves, and believe in slavery, and ‘Made In China’...”
“You can grow every kind of fruit and vegetable you want. That’s how they do it. They have fruit trees and vegetable trees. That’s where fruit and vegetables come from...”
“If you freeze the fruit and vegetables, it’ll last forever.”

"They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."
This comment was made during the 2008 campaign, but not the general election campaign. It was made in the spring of 2008, and was an attack on Hillary Clinton's supporters. The way the 2008 race was shaping up at the time, Clinton was doing well among white working-class voters while Obama built his campaign on the support of all the misfits who make up the Democrat grassroots. There was an enormous racial angle to this, despite the denials of the Clinton campaign in 2016. Remember -- it was Clinton's team in 2008 who first floated the stories about Barack Obama's mysterious origins.
Fast-forward to 2016, and it's easy to see why Clinton lost. She was forced to go begging for votes among the Obama misfits she had alienated back in 2008, and many of them simply weren't having any of it. It's remarkable that in eight short years Obama effectively handed all of Clinton's white working-class supporters to Donald Trump.

He would be a great choice for that job.
Pennsylvania remembered that quote very well, and with some ... bitterness.
I'm finding that a lot of superior welders are also artists. There is no limit to how creative and excellent they can become.
Always liked this guy (and had a crush on him) so it’s great to see him being someone who loves this country and supports the right man.
