Before she left for work on Wednesday, Riley Elementary School teacher Christi Paulson said she had a bad feeling about how her students would be responding to President-elect Donald Trump.
The school is located on Salt Lake City's diverse west side and home to many languages, ethnicities and countries of origin.
"They're really worried about the [border] wall," Paulson said, referring to one of Trump's signature campaign pledges, "and about friends and parents and people getting sent away."
In her second-grade classroom, Paulson has two cups on a counter that feature a smiling, winking face with big thumbs up and a sad face with eyes on the cusp of tears.
Each day students place a stick labeled with their name in one of the two cups, which allows Paulson to check in privately with students who are distressed.

Sorry, no free college.
Toughen up little cowboy
Children in the schools who are upset, have been exposed to Leftist propaganda. If they are worried that may be deported, perhaps their parents shouldn’t have broken the law. I am praying that the LAW is again the ruler of this land. If you break the LAW, you WILL suffer consequences. Period.
So full of crap....Democrats in training.
2nd graders? - without being directed ? I call B.S.
I listened to Cokie Roberts on NPR just for the satisfaction of her laments
It is high time that illegals felt scared to be on the streets and in our schools. Time for them to head home.
Never worry about the inevitable my little snowflake dunce. The wall is coming. Some of your Amigos will be leaving.
A Denver talk show host is making hay noting that the local TV (liberal, of course) went to schools and talked to all the children who were “saddened and devastated” by the Trump win.
He’s good and is doing a great job of making the MSM liberals look like the slime that they are.
As a side point, was anyone out there political in ANY sense of the word when they were in grade/middle school?
MSM = enemy.
Keep that in mind. Those vermin are not done yet.
why is the SLTrib printing this crap?
Are all papers stupid now?
I didn't know the Millenial generation is this psychologically bad....
I wish I’d had thought of this excuse and that the schools would have fallen for it. Could have skipped out a lot more.
diverse west side and home to many languages, ethnicities and countries of origin.
great recipe for success /s
we ALL have ethnicities. some of us speak other languages, but I dont at work or MOST places. perhaps with friends and that is it.

The only protests I see in states Trump won were in Philly (and these are weak protests - more social gatherings for losers looking to hook up by pretending to care).
The foreigners bemoaning the result can now imagine how Americans would feel after a Latin American election if we were living down there...
EHAC
Eat hemorrhoids and cry
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
EXACTLY. The only way 2nd graders would have some reaction to anyone being elected to anything, would be if they were told to do so.
Second graders. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Give it a break, Teach.
This is total B.S!!! I have a 6 year old grandson in one of these ‘Utah Schools’ and when I dropped him off yesterday morning the kids were out playing, laughing, and the teachers were talking to each other, smiling and laughing...
This woman whoever she is, even if she is a school teacher, must be in a cave around the Mountains...
I went to several places after I dropped him off, and every where I went, people were smiling, and talking and laughing, it was like a whole new feeling...people had pep in their steps, they actually appeared to like being out and around again...
This newspaper is a ‘bird liner and fish wrap’ and I get into arguments in their editorial page everyday because they have these ‘little snowflakes’ that act like the world is coming to and end, heaven help them when it does!!!
