Gov. Charlie Baker, the state's most prominent Republican, did not cast a vote for president of the United States for the first time in his life today.
"This is the first time I haven't voted for president and I'm obviously disappointed about that," Baker said outside The First Church in Swampscott, where he was 40th in line to vote - his wife Lauren, 39th - at 7 a.m. in a 35-degree chill.
Baker also passed on penning a write-in candidate. "But you know what? I have lots of friends who are voting for Hillary Clinton. I have lots of friends who are voting for Donald Trump, and I respect their opinion and I respect their decision," he said.
"I said many months ago that I wasn't going to be able to support Donald Trump for a number of reasons" he said of his party's candidate, "and that Hillary Clinton had believability problems. And nothing's happened in the past nine months to change my mind on that.
"Look, everybody gets to make up their mind on how they want to respond on Election Day," Baker said, when asked how voters might view his example to skip a check mark for POTUS. "The good news here is we had a million people who turned out before Election Day and based on the lines ... it's going to be a big turnout day here in Massachusetts."
Most importantly, Baker said once the final results are in, "It's going to be really important for people to send signals and to do things that support the notion that we are still all in this together."
Baker did divulge that he voted for Republican Anne Manning-Martin for Essex County sheriff, saying, "I think she's a terrific person."
As for the four ballot questions, Baker voted no on slot machines, yes on expanding charter school choices, yes on improving the lives of farm animals and no on legalizing recreational marijuana.
“Portraits in Courage” beckons. I voted for this doofus over the moonbat last time. Will probably blank him next time. Your’re welcome Charlie.
Another example of why I will never vote Republican again. Trump is my last.
Surrender Party doormats. One term gov.
“Most importantly, Baker said once the final results are in, “It’s going to be really important for people to send signals and to do things that support the notion that we are still all in this together.”
Said the man who just refused to vote.
Not what our forefathers intended.
Gov. Wanker.
Just another reason that WRKO radio host Jeff Kuhner refers to Baker as “Chicken Charlie.”
Wimp. As a leader, his duty is to take a stand. Major failure.
The people are free to vote their consciences, just as we are free to vote ours.
Toomey did not earn my vote. Just “can’t bring myself to back him.”
I guess some of these "leaders" don't think things through. Instead of leading his team to victory, he chose to punt with seconds on the clock. Why would anybody consider such a feckless fool to be any kind of leader?
These NeverTrumper folks really think people care about what they do. They are insignificant.
and wrecks the world. Establishment exposed. So sad.
He makes me sick!! I’m from Massachusetts.
I hope everyone of these people are voted out of office.
FCB and the horse he rode in on! Wait a minute! Paul Revere road a horse in! Just FCB!
Another old and dusty Whig, best suited for the Smithsonian or the trash heap.
This BS’ing, lying RINO piece of human excrement almost certainly voted for Hillary and did NOT leave his ballot’s Presidential choice blank.
“Sorry Charlie”. You don’t know how sorry you are....
