Chris Christie aides found guilty in Bridgegate trial
New York Post ^ | Nov. 4, 2016 | Kaja Whitehouse

Two former aides of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie were found guilty of closing down Fort Lee, NJ, lanes to the George Washington Bridge to punish that borough’s mayor for not endorsing the governor’s re-election.

A jury of seven women and five men returned the guilty verdict after five days and 20 hours of deliberations in the Newark federal court trial of Bridget Anne Kelly, Christie’s former deputy chief of staff, and Bill Baroni, Christie’s appointee at the Port Authority.

The guilty verdict is more bad news for Christie, who saw his approval rating plummet to its lowest levels yet during the trial, where former staffers described him as a foul-mouthed bully who ordered subordinates to curse out his critics — and who once got angry over a playful box of donuts.

Blocking a bridge is a major crime…if you are Republicans. Giving away government secrets on your illegal private server while Sec. of State….nah. This is sickening.

I think it’s safe to say CC is not going to be AG....

Also, will not bode well for Rs in gubernatorial races, as this will be an albatross on their necks....

Media scrambling for angles right now for stories to tie Christie to Trump.
They have their story for the next 24 hours.

Note to Christie. Commute the sentences. Then move on.

Christie has no authority to do that. This was a Federal case.

The convictions could be overturned on appeal, since I'm not sure there was ever a basis for a Federal prosecution in a case like this.

Nobody is saying that a Christi aid didn’t block the bridge for wrong reasons. I am not sure what is news here. This has been known for 4 years. Christi fired the aids for lying to him.

Christie paid $175,000 in an attack ad against Tom Tancredo, a conservative Republican, when he was running for governor of Colorado. Christie installed democrat John Chickenpooper as the liberal Governor of Colorado. Christie is not a republican.

Didn't CC just sign in a gas tax increase recently. He's not exactly making brownie points with the public.

And it's their 'First Amendment rights' for the Black Lives Matter terrorists to block roads and bridges just to get into whitey's face. Go figure.

Up to 20 years in prison for putting orange cones in the road.

If you don’t think that government has been weaponized and aimed straight at the American people, think again.

There will be boxcar political purges by the end of an H residency.

Nobody blocked a bridge.

What they did was close down some entrance ramps to the bridge from the town on the New Jersey side of the river.

Unless you were coming from that town, you wouldn't have noticed any difference if you crossed the bridge that day.

First of all, that bit about Christie being scarce, very true, I hadn’t noticed.

As a regular user of that George Washington bridge, man I am, and was, furious about that Christie gang intentionally closing that bridge to punish a political opponent.

Hear me out.

THE ONLY PEOPLE THEY PUNISHED WERE WORKING PEOPLE LIKE ME! People travelling after a tiring day of work, a long trip up north....whatever...THEY suffered. Christie’s political opponent didn’t sit in traffic for hours and hours.

That bridge is forever a pain and to close it down like they did, man they deserve to go to jail.

And anybody who thinks Christie didn’t have anything to do with it, I got a bridge to sell....cheap, can be shut down with no notice.

Finally, I agree that had the Democrats pulled this same stunt nothing would have been done about it. But having politicos punish US, the people who carry this country on our backs, is not what we want and just keep this in mind.

Blocking the bridge was interfering with interstate commerce (since the bridge connects two states). I assume that's the basis for Federal prosecution.

You might be right, but if you read the biographies of the two defendants in this case you’ll find two examples of everything that is wrong with American politics.
