The convictions could be overturned on appeal, since I'm not sure there was ever a basis for a Federal prosecution in a case like this.

Blocking the bridge was interfering with interstate commerce (since the bridge connects two states). I assume that's the basis for Federal prosecution.

One of the counts included conspiracy to commit fraud by "knowingly converting and intentionally misapplying property of an organization receiving federal benefits."

Uh -- what? LOL.
