U.S. Economy Grew by 161,000 Jobs in October; Unemployment Rate Falls to 4.9%

The government, delivering the last major snapshot of the economy before Election Day, reported on Friday that employers added 161,000 workers in October, a performance that suggests a healthy outlook for the months ahead.

The official unemployment rate dropped to 4.9 percent.

Average hourly earnings rose 2.8 percent year over year, a strong showing.

For the presidential campaign, the latest employment report serves as a Rorschach test allowing each side to offer its own distinctive narrative of the economy’s performance and prospects.

“Both sides will be able to take something in that report, to assess blame or take credit for,” Vincent Reinhart, chief economist at Standish Mellon, said before its release.

Liberal New York Times is going to try to spend the next few days trying to hype some below average seasonal Christmas hiring that happens this time every year into a “happy day's are here again” roaring Obama/Clinton Economy.

Why are you laughing?

The lower unemployment directly reflects the quarterly growth of 2.9%. /s

Look at the terrible labor participation rate %62.8.

This means nearly 40 percent of ALL people able to work are not working.

The 62 percent of the labor force has to support 100 percent of the population. This is disastrous.

It may be Hillary supporting businesses like Wal-Mart that are cooking the employment figures.

Hillary was on the company’s board when Bill was Arkansas governor in the 1980’s and the Walton family heirs-major shareholders have given her and the Democrat Party 700-thousand dollars this year.

I am under the impression Wal-Mart has been on a major hiring spree even bringing back people dismissed earlier at the rate of 10 hires per store per week since the middle of the summer. With 3-thousand stores that could be tens of thousands of hires nationwide per week.

A lot of those hired have since been let go because they had “issues” but that’s the story I’ve been getting.

When everyone in America knows someone who’s unemployed, how can they believe we have near full employment. 4.9 my behind.
