Over the last few weeks a growing number of people have started wondering, "Is it possible the United States is heading for a new civil war?" Granted, most of those people are writers for sites like Russia Today or the Huffington Post, and thus slightly less credible than a handful of Bazooka Joe gum wrapper comics. But Donald Trump has made a few tinpot dictator-ish statements recently.
And we did just see an anti-government militia get off scot-free for occupying a federal building
Every time I wanted to dismiss those headlines I thought about my visit to Ukraine last year, to cover their ongoing civil war. The most common sentence I heard was, "It's like a bad dream." Up to the minute the shooting started, almost no one thought civil war was a serious possibility.
So instead of waking up one day and screaming, "Holy xxxx, I can't believe I didn't take this possibility seriously," I decided to take the possibility seriously. I talked to David Kilcullen, former Chief Strategist in the State Department's Office of the Coordinator of Counterterrorism. He helped plan the successful "surge" in Iraq, and he's seen a lot of civil wars in his time. He didn't consider a new U.S. civil war likely ... but he was also pretty damn far from ruling it out: "I think what we're seeing now is, what I would describe as a proto-insurgency situation ... the ingredients are out there, if somebody knew what they were doing, [they could] pull together an effective movement."

Ridiculous. Never happen. know what planet they are on and couldn’t even care less.
But just in case.......
What I fear most is weaponized clickbait.
WTH is “Cracked.com”??????????????
I think living in a totalitarian America with wall-to-wall surveillance powered by modern technology is pretty terrifying.
The old Cracked magazine, but on the Internet.
Cracked is actually pretty good. I’ve learned some stuff there. At least it piqued my curiosity about a thing and on further investigation discovered that the semi-crazy stuff they were saying was actually true.
That would lead to interesting times. I think it would lead to massive civil disobedience at first, but the fuse could be lit at any time.
They dont have enough people that know how to fight and win a civil war.
OK...I have never heard of it....
“And we did just see an anti-government militia get off scot-free for occupying a federal building”
You mean that mob that took over the wisconsin capitol building?
Civil wars are started by desperate, hungry people who have nothing to lose. Walk through any Walmart and take a look at the corpulent poor. Too many people have WAY too much to lose. Also, beyond the annoyance of the communist agitator group BLM is anybody organizing militias? Not that I’ve noticed.
Even if you weaned them off the EBT cards and the Obama-phones, they wouldn’t take to the streets. (Not in Republican states, anyway, as they’d get their fat butts shot off.)
Let’s say president Hillary outlaws guns. Okay, fine, we all become outlaws. She has no moral authority and her legal authority would be rapidly reduced to nothing. We would suffer through for more years of a bad economy and she would guarantee a Republican replacement. Our civil wars are now at the ballot box.
Thanks...
Stopped reading after the first paragraph.
I read Mad back when I was 13-14 years old....
The liberal elitist progressive globalist etc paradigm is that civil war involves resistance to their imposed agenda.
The conservative viewpoint is that civil war has already started and consists of the imposition of the progressive agenda without sufficient authorization by the people and their elected representatives.
This is currently at the annoyance stage but any further escalation of the imposition would lead to organized resistance, I would expect, and that would create a civil war. But the fault would lie not with the conservatives resisting (protecting the constitution) but with the socialists imposing what amounts to unconstitutional rule.
The 2016 election is probably the one and only chance to resolve this at the ballot box. A Trump win essentially overturns the ongoing revolution and imposes a counter-revolutionary, return-to-normal solution. A Clinton win is inevitably going to lead to martial law because half of America will want to resist everything she does and everything she represents. She is worse than Obama in this regard because of the higher degree of corruption, or perhaps I should say, she disguises her corruption with less skill (no skill at all, really).
How this is not obvious to more elitists (people like David Frum who should know better) is a mystery, not all of the people who support Hillary Clinton are corrupt or even revolutionary. They just don’t understand what is about to happen if she wins this election. And a contested result will definitely open up Pandora’s box but fault will lie mainly with the Democrats who have rolled the dice with this sort of candidate and this sort of election campaign.
God bless America is all we can say at this point, and go Donald Trump.
“An earlier article suggested that Hillary Clinton might be elected, then preemptively pardoned by Obama to shield her from impeachment.”
That’s not the way it would happen.
It could be that Obama resigns in January leaving Biden as president and then Biden pardons, Hillary, Bill and Obama.
It was where I learned that the native Americans may have been almost wiped out by a plague much worse than the black plague. Like 90% died rather than a third.
It touched on a lot of details about the original settlers from Europe discovering cities, gardens, etc. Almost like a true “european style” civilization existed. And when I reasearched it I discovered they were accurately covering it, though throwing in a lot of comedy in the way they said it. But It was a real eye opener for me.
It kind of explained why the vikings, pre wipe-out (probably with a cloth or something) got their butts handed to them, but they were a pushover for the pilgrims, etc.
