A last-minute, virtually unknown conservative independent presidential candidate, Evan McMullin, declared his candidacy too late to be considered a credible candidate. This is unfortunate, since he is a cut above the other candidates from either party. However, he is weighed down by voter reaction to his religion: Mormonism. And by his former profession: CIA operations officer.
Voters will immediately and wrongly assume that, like Mitt Romney, being a Mormon is religiously exotic, even bizarre (all that teetotaling, no music or dancing), hurting him in the eyes of the voting proletariat. His earlier employment in the CIAs clandestine service, with still classified operational details unavailable, also becomes fodder for the anti-secrecy malcontents, adding more opposition to his success.

Timing irrelevant. This guy was never qualified or serious candidate. What a joke he thinks he has any chance whatsoever. And this is the caliber of analyst the government hires?!
“Former” profession? Are we sure of that?
CIA answers to the corrupted State Department, after all.
Eggan McMuffin got a nice little payday from all this to be Mittens’ lackey for a couple of months.
Some people say the reasoning was to have someone running that if there were a tie in the Electoral College, he could be chosen. Nuts, but that is what some were saying.
LOL! We’ve seen them come and we’ve seen them go. Hopefully he goes and the good people of Utah realize he’s got as much chance as johnson or stien.
I just posted an article about Utah NeverTrumpers switching their support and voting for Trump...

What a load of manure.
Outside of UT, no one is going is vote for a Mormon.
He never stood a chance and he ain’t Mitt. No one ever heard of him.
IIRC, the CIA reports to the Director of National Intelligence who reports to the President.
Mike Pence is more conservative.
May be a last ditch effort to draw a fraction of a percent from Trump and allow Clinton to win.
I’m sure glad Donald picked him.
So Utah is going to vote for a “boutique” candidate and turn themselves into a fringe laughing stock of a state that has no national influence?
Good luck with that.
Nothing against Mormons. But they as a group aren’t backing our party’s nominee. Except the ones I know here in Virginia. Really decent people. As for the supposed credentials of Evan McMullin, he’s a neocon/globalist. A darling of Bill Kristol and the Weekly Standard. On the payroll of Goldman Sachs. Never met a war he didn’t want to send Americans to die in. As for his own military service, he - like almost all the other neo-cons - has none. (I did have a Mormon buddy when I was in the Army, and my Mormon friends have a daughter in the Marines.) Donald didn’t serve either, but he has always had a heart for the veterans. I think, maybe, he feels a little guilty about why did some go to Vietnam and others didn’t. While I was in at the time, I wasn’t sent there. Sometimes, I wonder about that. And I know Donald Trump prefers we don’t have so many fallen and wounded veterans. Trump is for “Peace through Strength.” Both parts.
The fraction could hurt in the states with 5% or so Mormon population like Nevada, Colorado, Alaska. Utah has under 33% Hillary support, so at best McMormon could deny Trump some EVs and throw the election to the House.
The McMormon backers are hoping that happens and that he is somehow picked by the House over Trump. Why they expect 30 states to deny the will of their voters is the question.
No chance! And, Mormonism is not an “exotic religion!”
Read “Under the Banner of Heaven” for a look at some of the zealots in that cult.
LOL, yeah he’s such a cut above. Well, Mittens had to have somebody other that Aleppo Smokin’ Johnson to hang his hat on.
