A new study by a prominent Russian astrophysicist claims the “new Little Ice Age” started at the end of 2015 due to low solar activity, kicking off decades of “deep cooling” in the latter half of the 21st Century.
“As a result, the Earth has, and will continue to have, a negative average annual energy balance and a long-term adverse thermal condition,” Dr. Habibullo Abdussamatov, who is the head of space research for the Pulkovo Observatory at the Russian Academy of Sciences, wrote in a recent study.
“The quasi-centennial epoch of the new Little Ice Age has started at the end 2015 after the maximum phase of solar cycle 24,” Abdussamatov wrote. “The start of a solar grand minimum is anticipated in solar cycle 27 in 2043 and the beginning of phase of deep cooling in the new Little Ice Age in 2060.”

Wet fall indeed. It took 6 1/2 weeks before the rain here stopped long enough for me to mow my lawn 10 days ago.
It’s been raining pretty much every day since. The clouds will break up, sun comes out for 20 minutes, then the skies close in and the deluge begins anew.

Interesting development, but I still object to the subjective terms used. 'Negative' and 'adverse' for who? The earth is does not care whether it is getting warmer or colder or "just right" for humans (or any other species of plant or animal). It is just going about its earth-business like it has for trillions of years before there were humans around to complain that it is too hot or too cold or just right.
I really dislike all this anthropomorphizing or anthro-centrism in science. Scientists should know better than this.

Finally getting nice weather here in SFL. It’s almost chilly at night. Past few nights it was cooler outside than inside.
In my neck of the woods, central CA, it felt like we experienced global moderation after the late 90’s. Doesn’t get as a hot as long as in the past, milder withers too. Not saying we don’t have our spikes, but things around just seem more moderate.
Another problem, even if we DO accept anthropocentrism (which is a theological issue — science cannot treat such questions), is what do we mean by ascribing only one number to a set of complex conditions? It might be “good” for man for one area of the earth to be warmer, another colder, at the same time. Even ideal statistical distributions aren’t described only by an average; they also have a standard deviation. Who’s been talking about the standard deviation of earth, to add even a second dimension to average?
Still not fall here in Houston. The best we've had so far is highs in the mid-80's. Lately we've been around 90. This weekend we may actually have a high below 80.
I sure hope so. The last few summers in Texas have been sheer hell. This summer was particular brutal. Heck, it’s hot today and it’s almost November!
Well that would explain the over 2 inches of rain we’ve had here in the desert in SE Washington this October!

We had some really, really weird rain events this summer. Remember the spring rains in Texas? The flooding rains in WV, Ellicot City MD, Baton Rouge? Here in VA Beach (officially at the airport) we got 6.98 inches in about 90 minutes in July. That was one helluva rain storm.
Now I’m confused. (Not a hard thing to do, I admit :) I thought Global Warming was “settled science.”
