Vanities is one thing, but what is really killing us are all the postings using sources that have no credibility and turn out making us look like a laughing stock.

I think the bogus articles should be posted, and immediately debunked.

But, I differ from the usual moderator action: rather than deleting them, I think the article title should be changed to add [HOAX] or something similar to the beginning.

That way, a search will find it, and the same hoax or click-bait article won't be posted over and over again, and deleted each time. And, we don't have people citing them for months afterward, because they read it while it was briefly posted, and didn't see it was debunked.

I've lost count of the number of times people have posted that Yoko Ono admitted to having an affair with Hillary Clinton, even long after that article was consigned to the dustbin.

And when I ask them to stop posting it, because the original article was from a hoax website (the masthead even said "any resemblance to the actual truth is coincidental"), they get indignant -- like it's MY fault they fell for it.

When I see something posted at FreeRepublic I feel like I’m reading from the conservative Bible . . . I don’t expect nonsense and error. It truly hurts us all!

When I see something posted at FreeRepublic I feel like I’m reading from the conservative Bible . . . I don’t expect nonsense and error.

You have described most articles from the lamestream media.

Free Republic was founded as a way to post and critique articles from major news outlets that were demonstrably wrong or biased.

Hoaxes fall into that category. Free Republic should discredit those, not ignore them.

Perhaps the title can include that it is a hoax or an article to be debunked. Most of those that are to be debunked are easy to spot . . . I’m talking about those that proclaim something that might excite a conservative only to find out that it is from a source without credibility.

“Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher,“All is vanity.”

Interesting reply...

Folks, if you feel the urge to post a vanity, think again.

Folks, if you feel the urge to READ a vanity; get a LIFE!

What's a Vanity post?

Ummm, you've been around to know that. But, if you are asking a rhetorical question for the benefit of others:

A vanity post is an post with no source article. Some vanities are well-researched postings, with new information that doesn't fit with an existing posting.

Hi Gunner! Nice to see you hanging around again.

Don’t be sad. All of this nonsense is going to run out in the wash.
The “snowflakes” will grow out of it, and please God, may their teachers
help them to grow up into responsible adults without getting hysterical
over a “trigger.”

And finally, the silly snowflakes are talking about assassinating President Elect Trump.
They should be put in prison for even speaking of it to anyone. You simply do not murder
a man who loves America and wants us all to be comfortable here as he Makes America Great
Again. He is also in the midst of attempting to create the pathways to all the things he
promised to change in America for the better for everyone. He means to do it, and he’s
going to keep all his promises. He’s a good man who didn’t deserve all the flying CARP
thrown at him during this, the dirtiest campaign I’ve seen in my lifetime, and I’m going
to be 70 on December 11.

Oh, I’m not really sad.
I’m just oddified by the number of vanities lately.
Must have been the big-ass moon maybe.

Anyway.. Brer Trump is made stronger by all the crap thrown
at him and is probably amused by it. I appreciate a sense of humor in a person.

Glad to hear that you're not really sad, my dear friend.

We got a good look at the super moon last evening, and it was
really huge and beautiful. There were a few wispy clouds and
they were kind of pretty as they ran back and forth across the
enormous moon.

I'm just positive that you and Brer Trump will get on very well.
Assuming, that is, that you ever get a chance to actually meet
him. He asked me to dinner a couple of times, and also to come
to his rallies, but the democrats were beating up Donald's guys,
so Bryan and I decided to just stay home and contribute to him
instead. He sent me a lot of thank-you notes and so on, and I'm
a bit shy, but the notes were all very nice.

Lost a key?

Step 1: Remove doorknob to access, remove and replace latch/lock mechanism.

If you can’t get the knob off with this “gentle” approach, I’d suggest a pipe wrench to just twist the thing off.

....easy way or the hard way, take your pick.

Wow you really go back in the threads :)

Lucky me.

Do you mean just turn it hard with a wrench and it will break off?

I’m not sure of your other method.

Consider me NOT a DIYer when you answer! Thanks :)

Door latches are usually built around a square rod that’s fastened into the knobs by little bitty screws that mostly keep the knobs from sliding off the rod. If you loosen the screw and get the knob off, you only need to push the rod back through the door to get all the latch stuff (and maybe the lock as well) out of the way so you can use a screwdriver to turn what’s left inside the door to release the latch.

If there are no screws or you can’t get ‘em to turn, that’s time for the pipe wrench....and yeah that will break off a door knob. (Particularly interior door “locks” and especially anything produced less than thirty years ago.)
In fact, if the house is less than 10-15 years old, the wrench very well may tear up the knob, wipe out the lock and open the door in one shot.

(That is also why EXTERIOR doors should have deadbolts. Those exterior door latch/lock mechanisms aren’t really much more substantial than the stuff sold for interior doors.)

HOWEVER...If that is a really old door latch where the knob is on the top of the door plate and the key operates its own separate deal down below, I’d call in a locksmith. Probably take a good one less time to pick the lock than you’d think (if he doesn’t have the keys that fit on hand), the cost shouldn’t be terrible and I just don’t like to see that good old stuff junked.

....my pipewrench recommendation notwithstanding.

It is what you described above :(

Not even a screw on the doorknob! Can’t budge the hinges though I’ve been given advice and still can’t budge them.

My wife’s not even sure what’s in there but it can’t stay closed forever.

Thanks man. Any last tips before I go at it, please let me know :)

New York?

Well, crap.

Got a good guy in town that I use, but guess the airfare from Montana would be too much even if I could talk him into the trip.

Good luck with the door.
