Although I really, really hate to say this, I am forced to understand that discovery is a right afforded to someone being charged by an official entity AND for an official entity BEING sued by an individual.

It’s called pretrial discovery. It’s up to a judge to decide if that information is relevant or not now.

Just my dumbass country boy opinion....

And people wonder why the deplorables are so fired up about Trump.

Trump wants to stop this stuff. He’s talked about it several times.

Is the suit by the Lay Minister because the State says he discriminates by preaching sodomy is evil or that the church doesn’t have the correct bathrooms?

There’s got to be more to this than what is being put on paper to anger the impulsive.

Olens is a conservative and has been a reputable DA/AG up till now.

That’s pathetic. Many/most pastors I know don’t have written sermons, or even notes. They’re not recorded, so there aren’t transcripts. I know my dad and uncles were in this category.

Get Trump in the White House!! He’ll be friendlier toward Christians!

I see your point. There needs to be another way. Talk to congregants, maybe?

The point of discovery in this case would be to discover religious discrimination in the workplace. They don’t get to go on a fishing expedition.

Sounds to me like he already turned over some sermons, which was got him fired in the first place. He’s claiming discrimination by his state that they fired him due to his religious beliefs, which used to be a First Amendment right of American citizens to hold without interference from the government.

Why do they want more sermons since he’s already given them some? Sounds like he wants to know what basis the state fired him - which as well all know, was his over his religious views - probably regarding homosexuality, same-sex marriage, or anything else that is politically incorrect now.

The government is really bad about using discovery as a “license to fish” and work from there. But it is also a two edged sword when one sues the government - they have rights, too.

For this case, I’d say the plaintiff is going to have to show how delivering sermons used in the past do not have standing in a case alleging what it is, basically religious persecution.

It’s a tough nut, but the plaintiff just can’t say “no” on general principles. He’s gonna have to come up with some kind of compelling plausible argument why not.

I hope he does..

The point of discovery in this case would be to discover religious discrimination in the workplace.

The discrimination, though, would have occurred at his government workplace, not in his sermons. It sounds like they're looking for some semblance of 'justification' for having fired him.

I was a multiple generational Cobb Countian. My family goes back to there before the Civil War (no slaves, BTW).

I remember Sam Olens - a lawyer - got elected to the Cobb County Commission. I didn’t vote for him then, and I didn’t vote for him for any other higher state office.

No point other than I didn’t trust him then, and I don’t trust him now. To me, he’s like Johnny Isakson. Who was a Cobb Countian who ran for Newt’s seat when he was forced to quit.

Cobb has always been full of Schysters - especially elected officials. David Scott has turned S Cobb into a 3rd world ghetto. The Cobb Chamber shoved that baseball stadium down everybody’s throat too. Glad I don’t live there anymore.

My ENTIRE family line moved from there. Its government if full of lazy crook bureaucrats that benefit from the bounty of a high tax base and basically “too much cash”.

The government employees don’t actually do sh!t but ‘manage’ subcontractors to do the real work. Meanwhile their bennies keep getting bigger and the like.

To keep up their tax base, their planning and tax valuation department is trying to drive landowners with large tracts that can be valued into multiple subdivision tracts with million dollar houses, or commercial (where they get kickbacks and under the table bennies, etc.)

IMO, that county government is crooked - stem to stern, from sunup to sundown, and sundown to sunup. Crooks, every one of them.
