His attorney asked that he be evaluated after a man and a
woman were stabbed in Roanoke County’s Pines Apartments.
A Roanoke County man charged with attacking two people with a knife has been sent to a state psychiatric hospital for evaluation.
Wasil Rafat Farooqui, 20, was transferred to Central State Hospital in Petersburg after his attorney, Sheila Moheb, asked that he be assessed.
A judge granted the motion Oct. 13, said Roanoke County Commonwealth’s Attorney Randy Leach.
Leach’s office didn’t object, but asked that Farooqui be sent to a secure facility. Central State houses Virginia’s only maximum security forensic mental health unit.
Moheb declined to comment on Farooqui’s condition, but said a preliminary hearing in the case will be postponed until he has been evaluated.
The preliminary hearing is an early phase of a case during which the prosecution lays out the allegations and a judge determines whether sufficient evidence exists to allow the charges to advance to a grand jury.
Farooqui is facing two felony charges of aggravated malicious wounding stemming from an Aug. 20 attack on a man and a woman at a southwest Roanoke County apartment complex.
Police said Farooqui told a detective that he’d been hearing voices urging him to attack someone. He’s accused of bursting into a couple’s apartment at the Pines Apartments on Banbury Lane and slashing them repeatedly with a large kitchen knife.
Witnesses reported he was shouting “Allahu akbar” — Arabic for “God is great” — during the attack.

If they are going to classify mooslimes as mentally unstable then we should run with this and make sure they vet all incoming mooslimes for “mental stability”.
If Islam is a mental disorder does that mean it is protected as a medical disease or a religion? If it a medical disease then it falls outside the purview of the first amendment because in this country the mentally ill do not have first amendment rights because they are sick in the head.
We need to stop making fun of this and take the narrative they are trying to feed us seriously and turn it on them.
