Mr. Dole is the only former Republican presidential nominee who backs Mr. Trump after 2005 video

Former U.S. Sen. Bob Dole said he is standing by Donald Trump after a decade-old recording emerged in which the Republican presidential nominee speaks in crude sexual terms about women.

Mr. Dole, the Republican Party’s presidential pick in 1996, is the only former GOP nominee to express support for Mr. Trump.

Reached by phone on Saturday, Mr. Dole said he had “great respect” for Sen. John McCain of Arizona, who said earlier in the day that he would no longer support the party’s 2016 nominee....

While I didn't care for his tax collecting activities for the nanny state, Bob Dole is a decent patriotic man and the first Republican presidential candidate who I ever voted for in a General Election. I would have voted for Ronald Reagan had I thought he might need my help, but I lived in North Dakota at the time and know he would roll up lopsided wins.

I did, however, strongly support him in the 1976 County Convention as told in my Freeper profile page.

And the wall street journal has lost 50% of its readership. Hang on, you lying pig propagandists, there’s a burger-flipping job waiting for you.

I never thought that I would want to heap praise on Senator Dole, but I was impressed that he attended the convention and he is now standing by Trump. Thank you Senator Dole!

I had dinner with Senator Dole at the Midwest Republican Leadership Conference when I worked for General Al Haig. Robert Novak and Lando Calrissian were also at the table. Good guys.

That's great!

Lando Calrissian, haha! He didn't sell you out to Darth Vader?

Yeah, Mr. Dole.

Let him without sin cast the first stone. Or better yet
how about Forgiveness. Let’s hope others become awake and see there is no better choice then Trump, Pence and those who will guide them. Lewdness is a vanity of the world.

I'd love to know if anyone here has an inside skinny on a Nixon-Dole relationship...

The Republican leadership ultimately talked Nixon into resigning. They knew it was a lost cause. Here is Dole's eulogy at Nixon's funeral: YouTube Link

The smartest man to ever sit in that office, and yes, I include Thomas Jefferson. Ask any old DC hand.

Nixon favored GHWB for the 1988 nomination, not Dole. He appointed both GHWB and Dole to head the RNC for short stints in the early 1970s. If Nixon were still around, would he probably be backing Mrs. Bill even though she worked on his pending impeachment?

I recently watched some of his interviews in which he was commenting on some of our history in the 60s and 70s. He was indeed highly intelligent. Much maligned by history. I think a lot of people would be shocked if they saw some of these videos, read his books.
