Russia posts provocative tweet warning US on Syria, mocking Earnest
Fox News ^ | October 06, 2016 | Lucas Tomlinson

The Russian government is ratcheting up warnings – on Twitter – to the U.S. government not to interfere with its military operations in Syria, even suggesting American aircraft could be targeted by its “air defense systems.”

In a provocative tweet Wednesday, the Russian embassy in Washington posted a side-by side photo of White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest and the Russian S-300 missile system.

With the military apparatus pointed toward the image of Earnest, a caption says Russia wants the system because they “never really know what kind of assistance terrorists might get.” The tweet says Russia will take “every defensive measure necessary” to protect their personnel in Syria.

The tweet comes after the U.S. and Russia suspended direct talks over Syria operations -- and amid heightened tensions between the two countries over the bloody civil war in which Vladimir Putin’s forces are backing Bashar Assad while the U.S. tries to focus on taking out ISIS.

Asked what message the Russians might have been trying to send, Earnest tried to laugh off the social media salvo.

“I have no idea what message they were trying to send. If they’d like better pictures, though, I'm happy to send some,” Earnest joked at Wednesday’s briefing.

The photo coincides with other recent threats by Russian officials that Moscow would respond militarily to any perceived interference as the country boosts its military presence in Syria.

Russia needs to wait until November 8. They will then have a new president and may find that the issues have gone away.

And the point that the US has armed ISIS and Al Qaeda is really, really relevant, given that Russia is saying they need to be armed because they never know what kind of aid terrorists will get.

The Russians are saying that the US is arming terrorists, and they are 100% correct, based on the emails that have been exposed. Why Fox is lying about this is another issue, and it is no small lie but directly critical to understanding what Russia is even saying in their tweet!

No their problems in a sane world should be worse. I don’t know what this incessant desire to romanticize Putin is all about but he is our enemy and not our so called ally. He is a cut throat former KGB thug that murders his opponents including journalists.

In a sane world he’d be told target our aircraft and you’ll find a missle up the backside of the Ruskie that fired it

Yes, but in this case the Obama administration is supporting the wrong side. The US and Russia should a common intertest in Syria. I think Trump might realize this and back off or even change sides in the conflict.

Syria helped bombed 250 marines and Syria and their boss Iran and their sponsor Russia helped grow ISIS, Russia just twitters their fingers and attacks Rebels. The Russians probably bombed their own airliner and blamed it on ISIS.

We almost expanded the war into Syria when we were in Iraq under Bush and Assad harbored Saddam’s brother until forced to give him up.

Pence said clear as day, he’d act against the Assad regime.

Pence’s son is a Marine, it astonishes me that people would take sides with the side that murdered our Marines in Beirut.

For some reason, we are still fighting a fruitless war “for democracy” in the Middle East, in which the greatest enemy is Ba’athist regimes rather than ISIS/Al Qaeda/MB, etc.

You know, I’m thinking. If we were totally energy efficient, why be over there. Protect Israel. No. 1 and screw the rest. Obama let the Russians in there, fine. What are we going to do, WWIII to get them out? Let them stay. Iran gets a nuclear weapons? Won’t happen. But for now, what the heck are we doing over there. Half ass Obama Kerry Clinton doctrine. And Kissenger is backing Clinton. The woman sells the office of SOS, and he’s backing her.

” I don’t know what this incessant desire to romanticize Putin is all about...”

As compared to slavishly worshiping Obama?

The facts is Obama and his Marxist homosexual Muslim troglodytes have done far more direct damage to the USA than Putin has ever done.

What exactly is our vital national interest in Syria?

Fighting terrorists? Or siding against dictator strongmen, who it is hard to tell who’s side they are on? Are we ‘nation building’ Syria now? Is this really about the bombing of the Marine barracks decades ago, or is that the excuse?

Why are we involved in a convoluted hell hole that could get us in direct confrontation with a heavily armed near peer nuclear superpower, when we are not even sure we are not siding with the terrorists we claim to oppose?

The reasons why we are doing what we are doing in Syria are not clear to me.

Let the Russians fight this one, and cost Russian lives for a change.

Russia needs to change that photo by removing Earnest and replacing it with odumbo.
