The Latest: Obama to head to Chicago to raise cash for Dems

President Barack Obama is headed for his home town of Chicago this weekend to raise some cash for Hillary Clinton's campaign and for Democrats in the U.S. House.

The president also will attend a Sunday campaign event for Democratic Rep. Tammy Duckworth, who's challenging Republican Sen. Mark Kirk.

The White House says Obama will travel to Chicago on Friday and return to the White House on Sunday.

Obama fundraising in Chicago for Hillary, Duckworth, House Dems

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama comes home Chicago next weekend to headline fundraisers for Hillary Clinton, House Democrats and Senate candidate Tammy Duckworth.

I earlier reported on Obama’s Oct. 9 event for Rep. Duckworth, in a battle with Sen. Mark Kirk R-Ill. for the Illinois seat Obama once held.

On Friday, the White House confirmed Obama will have in all three events when he is home: for Hillary Clinton, House Democrats and Duckworth.

Obama and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi will headline a high-dollar fundraiser on Chicago’s North Side on Oct. 7 to benefit the campaigns of House Democratic contenders.

The Obama and Pelosi event is at the home of Democratic mega donor Fred Eychaner, who last Wednesday hosted Vice President Joe Biden at his North Side home for a Duckworth fundraiser.

The price tiers: $10,000-per-plate for the lunch; $16,700 gets lunch, a photo and preferred seating; $33,400 per couple adds to that the perk of being in Pelosi’s “Speaker’s Cabinet” donor group; $66,800 per couple gets the top VIP add-on, to also be part of a “clutch,” or small reception.

The funder is for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the House Democratic political shop. DCCC chair Rep. Ben Ray Lujan D-N.M.

Obama has long taken an interest in Duckworth’s political career, helping her when she made her first House run in 2006.

The hosts of the Sunday funder are Obama Foundation chair Martin Nesbitt, and his wife, physician Anita Blanchard; Theaster Gates, an artist and professor in the Department of Visual Art and Director of Arts and Public Life at the University of Chicago, who is on the Foundation design advisory committee; and Democratic activist John Atkinson and his wife, Bonnie.

Bill Clinton slams ObamaCare as ‘craziest thing in the world’

Bill Clinton has blasted President Obama’s signature piece of legislation — ObamaCare — as “the craziest thing in the world.”

“You’ve got this crazy system where all of a sudden, 25 million more people have health care, and then the people who are out there busting it, sometimes 60 hours a week, wind up with their premiums doubled and their coverage cut in half and it’s the craziest thing in the world,” the former president railed at a rally in Michigan on Monday.

Clinton also said the system is hurting moderately successful small businesses — ones that aren’t doing poorly enough to be subsidized and fall just above the line.

“On the other hand, the current system works fine if you’re eligible for Medicaid, if you’re a lower-income working person, if you’re already on Medicare or if you get enough subsidies on a modest income that you can afford your health care,” Clinton said.

“But the people getting killed in this deal are the small-business people and individuals who make just a little bit too much to get any of these subsidies,” he added. ...”

Sox fan Obama unlikely to attend Cubs playoff games this weekend Oct 5, 2016

President Barack Obama is spending the weekend in Chicago, but his press secretary said Wednesday that he is not aware of a presidential visit to Wrigley Field to see the Cubs play in the National League Division Series.

Press secretary Josh Earnest said during the daily White House briefing that Obama remains "a loyal Chicago White Sox fan and, in his mind, when it comes to evaluating baseball teams, that's the team that comes first.

The Chicago Democratic Machine’s anointed candidate for the US Senate (US Representative Tammy Duckworth) is struggling in what was supposed to be an absolute certainty election against a lackluster Republican incumbent. President Obama is coming to Illinois in an effort to bail out her lukewarm candidacy with the Illinois voters.

Of course, Obama tried the same thing six years ago and the Republican narrowly won the special election (for Obama’s vacant seat) and the election for a full six year term over the favored Democrat.
