GOP senators: We could work with Hillary Clinton
the Hill ^ | October 03, 2016, 06:31 pm | By Jordain Carney

Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) is predicting that congressional Republicans will be more willing to work with Hillary Clinton than they have been with President Obama, should she be elected president.

"She is a known commodity, and I think there’ll be more camaraderie in terms of working together, than there might have been in the early days of Obama," Isakson told the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Isakson, who is running for reelection and has endorsed GOP nominee Donald Trump, added, "I don’t think it will be like the post-Obama election at all."

Isakson's comments come as Clinton has narrowly trailed Trump in the typically red state, feeding Democrats hopes of expanding the electoral map. According a RealClearPolitics average of polls, the GOP presidential nominee is leading by less than 5 points.

The Georgia Republican isn't the only one who is open to collaborating with a hypothetical Clinton administration, even though multiple congressional committees are still probing her time atop the State Department.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Clinton would find a "willing partner" on immigration reform, bolstering the military and a Simpson-Bowles-type of initiative to improve federal spending, should she win.

"I can do two things at once. I can criticize and I can cooperate," he told The Hill last month. "I don't see that they're inconsistent."

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas)—while stressing that he doesn't believe Clinton will win in November—said Americans expect GOP senators to work with whoever is in the White House.

"We'll do our duty, you know regardless of who is president," the Senate's No. 2 Republican told The Hill last week. "The people we serve want us to to work together for their benefit so that's certainly my posture."

Cornyn declined to name specific issues that he believes he and Clinton could work well together on.

The GOP is finished. Only two GOP presidents in the last century, Reagan and Coolidge, were true Conservatives. The rest stretched from moderate Socialists to outright extremist Marxists.

We require a new party, in Trump’s own image. Patriotic, anti-PC, pro-Constitution and with sensible economic policies.

Hillary probably has something on all of them. If they had any integrity, they would resign. Despicable bunch.

The Republican establishment has no integrity, no honor and no reason to breath our good air. Sack ‘em all!

Read closely.

Cornyn's not saying what Graham is saying.

Lindsay is rushing to embrace Hillary.

Cornyn is brushing off the question, saying Senate Republicans will find a way to work with whoever gets elected.

Isakson is somewhere in between.

Lumping them all together like they were saying the same thing gives a false impression.

This is the thing that I am most pissed off about....

We have just lived through several years of conservatives saying, “Why don’t we pass this bill or that bill? Why don’t we flex our muscles on the budget? Now that we control both houses of Congress, why don’t we push through some of our priorities? Why don’t we defund some of these terrible programs. etc...”

Every time a conservative like Ted Cruz tried to stand firm in Congress, Obama would say, “Don’t bother passing that budget=>adding that amendment=>stopping funding for that program=>etc... If you do, I won’t sign the bill and the government will shut down.”

The Republican leadership and people like Graham and Isakson and McConnell and McCain would say, “That is nuts! We don’t want to be responsible for a government shutdown. We can’t win this. We have to give up. We can’t do anything at all to advance our priorities. Just give Obama what he wants.”

I can guarantee, without any doubt whatsoever, with every bit of confidence that I possess....that when President Trump says he won’t sign a budget or a bill or a debt limit increase, Graham and Isakson and McCain and McConnell will say, “You can’t do that. That is unreasonable. This is a perfectly good bill that we negotiated with the Democrats and Trump is just being stubborn.”

While they claimed Congress passing a bill that doesn’t get signed would have been have been responsible for any previous shutdown, they will claim that the President not signing a bill will be responsible for any future shutdown.

The double standard FROM OUR OWN SIDE will be incredible.

Mark my words. It will happen.

It’s the 7 “C’s” of GOP leadership:

Cringe
Cower
Conspire
Collaborate
Capitulate
Cave
Corruption

I’ve never liked Lindsay Graham. I wish that Johnny Isakson had retired this year, he’s pretty mediocre.

Have you no shame? I believe you could.

No. Even I was slightly optimistic for about twelve hours after Obama was elected. Nothing like that, should the sociopath win.

Disgusting. They’re already preemptively surrendering and she hasn’t even been elected.
