THOUGHT FOR THE WEEKEND
There is a line separating dedication-to-duty from "work-a-holism". Dedication to duty is good, healthy, and positive. Work-a-holism, on the other hand, is negative, harmful and eats away at family relationships. We must know the difference between the two. Let me tell you about a man who was called the Greatest American Soldier of the 20th Century: General George C. Marshall. Born in Uniontown, PA in 1880, he graduated from Virginia Military Institute in 1902. As a junior infantry officer in the US Army he served two tours in the Philippines, in several stateside camps, then to Europe where he helped plan some of the great Allied campaigns of World War I. He was selected to be senior aide to General "Blackjack" Pershing; then off to duty in China. In 1938 he was chosen by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to be Army Chief of Staff, a position he held throughout World War II. As COS he oversaw the greatest build-up ever of the Army--from 200,000 to 8.5 million soldiers. He volunteered and was considered the first-choice to lead the D-Day invasion of France, but President Roosevelt was so reliant on General Marshall that he would not let him leave Washington. In 1946 he became Secretary of State and engineered a plan to bolster the economic recovery of a devastated Europe. President Truman insisted (despite Gen Marshall's protests) that this massive undertaking be called the Marshall Plan. He was an architect of NATO and helped contain the fighting in Korea. In 1953 he was awarded the Noble Peace Prize, the only professional soldier to be accorded that honor. It is said that at the height of World War II, despite his crushing responsibilities, General Marshall went home every afternoon to take a nap! Although we may not be able to go home and take a nap in the middle of our day, let us be on guard that we not succumb to workaholism. Let us also watch out for each other in this area! If you: take periodic breaks from your busy work schedule, get away periodically from the demands of the job, take leave and allow yourself time to enjoy some quiet time each day... then you will be able to return to work and tackle your responsibilities with renewed vigor, dedication, and peace of mind. Have a nice weekend and, as always, Safety First!

Words That Matter
Sept 25, 2016
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes . . . this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.
1 John 1:1
Early in my days of working as an editor for Our Daily Bread, I selected the cover verse for each months devotional. After a while, I began to wonder if it made a difference.
Not long after that, a reader wrote and described how she had prayed for her son for more than twenty years, yet he wanted nothing to do with Jesus. Then one day he stopped by to visit her, and he read the verse on the cover of the booklet that sat on her table. The Spirit used those words to convict him, and he gave his life to Jesus at that very moment.
I dont recall the verse or the womans name. But Ill never forget the clarity of Gods message to me that day. He had chosen to answer a womans prayers through a verse selected nearly a year earlier. From a place beyond time, He brought the wonder of His presence to my work and His words.
John the disciple called Jesus the Word of life (1 John 1:1). He wanted everyone to know what that meant. We proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us, he wrote of Jesus (v. 2). We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us (v. 3).
There is nothing magical in putting words on a page. But there is life-changing power in the words of Scripture because they point us to the Word of lifeJesus.
Thank You, Father, that Your Word is living and powerful!
Words that point us to Christ are always words that matter.
In the Greek language in which it was originally penned, the verbs in 1 John 1:12 are in the perfect tense. They describe something completed in the past with abiding results into the present: That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touchedthis we proclaim concerning the Word of life. . . . The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it. These verses connect remarkably with Johns gospel: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. . . . Through him all things were made.

WOW! You were fast!
Good evening, Mac...*HUGS*...and a Blessed Lord’s Day to the MacNessa family.
Any dirt time today? Projects in progress?
I finished the homework I brought home. Now I’m putting a small table together. I need to go find a LONG, SKINNY screwdriver to attach the sides to the top...shaft has to be about 5” as the screw drops down through the side piece. And now rain clouds are coming in.

No dirt time today - I'm still dealing with an infection and haven't been able to get anything done physically.
We're having some landscaping done this week - John Man will have to carry the laboring oar on the prep work.

"I VOW TO THEE, my country, all earthly things above, Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love; The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test, That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best; The love that never falters, the love that pays the price, The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.
And there's another country, I've heard of long ago, Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know; We may not count her armies, we may not see her King; Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering; And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase, And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace."

Happy "Mushroom Day" to you Kathy.
.
You should have plenty of these in Alaska. Beautiful to see, wonderful to eat. Chanterelle,
Chantharellus cibarius, "pfifferling" in German, meaning, "the peppery one."

Good evening, MA!
My PC is about half way back to being whole.
(Mine actually has more parts inside - drives, memory, motherboard, NIC, fans, etc. It's the software reload and restoring backups that I'm working on now.)

Hai, do you mean the picture you posted to me or the one in my normal post to the Canteen? The Airbus 321 looks almost like a Boeing737 - hard to tell them apart. The quickest way I know is to look at the tail where the APU (auxiliary Power Unit)exhaust is ... they look different on either plane.
And yes, an F/O, First Officer, is what a co-pilot is but that term is no longer used.
I feel good about the outcome. If accepted my class date will be in November; November in Denver ... yuk.

The flood three years ago took out about 15 miles of road that they made temporary repairs on. This year they will work on trying to flood proof a few miles of that. Next year a few more miles and they are supposed to finish the third year. We can get in and out morning and evening between shift changes or drive a long way around. Snows have closed Trail Ridge Road for a while.
