Donald Trump may be on the cusp of bagging an endorsement from one of the most prominent NeverTrump holdouts, former primary rival Ted Cruz.
Sources close to the Trump campaign have confirmed Cruz is close to endorsing his former and sometimes bitter GOP rival. Talks between Cruz staff and the Trump camp have been regular in recent weeks, and have grown more serious as Trump has closed the gap with Hillary Clinton in key battleground states.

Yeah, sure.
As soon as Beck does.
Not your best work.
Yeah, okay but he gets bumped to the bottom of the list.
I wouldn’t count a on a nomination to the SC either.
Cruz will endorse Trump at 11:30PM on a Friday night.
Seems self-serving. But it should help Trump a bit with unity. I’m sure the nuts over at at Right Scoop and Red State will not be pleased.
Rather have one more Ally than one more enemy.
“Youre a dope.”
Why, ETL! I haven’t seen you in a month of Sundays.
Top of the morning to you, and I see you are as cordial as ever!
At some point, Cruz has to have a come to Jesus moment. If it is likely that Trump may become President, it is better to endorse. Trump might not like him anyway, but it also might get him off Trump’s manure list.
Every vote counts. Trump wants Cruz on his side and Cruz wants a future in the Republican Party.
Should require Cruz to campaign with him for several shows and give him a warm up speech. Get him into North Carolina and Southern Virginia in order to shore up evangelicals and #NeverTrump Ninnies.
Perhaps DJT has talked to him about a lifetime appointment.
That’s my take too. It’s self-serving. But Trump can be a much greater ally than Beck at this point. Best to throw Beck under the bus.
He has realized that he MUST, so he will.
After hearing Mike Lee’s response today to Trump floating Lee’s name as a possible SCOTUS nominee, I seriously doubt Cruz endorses Trump.
At this point, who cares?
“Cruz will endorse Trump at 11:30PM on a Friday night.”
And it will be half-hearted, yet cruz bots and cruzlims will swoon over how stateman-like he is.
Bump
Indeed. Disliked and disregarded is far better than being on a ‘to do’ list.
Is Cruz doing this to help Trump? Help the Republican party? Or help himself?
I am hoping this episode is one of learning from him. One that teaches him he isn’t chosen by God to lead the Jews out of Egypt, so to speak. If he can learn and grow and realize, perhaps he does have a future. But he has to accept he isn’t the chosen one at this time.
In the past, we had a longer period from after a candidate emerged as the titular nominee (had enough committed and announced delegates to win on the first round) and the convention. This year, not so much.
Cruz did the right thing to pull out after Trump won Indiana. Kasich should have as well. If this were a normal year, Cruz might have come on board by the convention. But, better late than never. As for Kasich, I doubt they will. Trump is doing very well in Ohio, and Portman (our Senate candidate) is home free. Portman shows how a moderate can kind of have it both ways. But, Kasich doesn’t get it. As for Jeb Bush, forgetaboutit. Jeb! and granddad are only hurting George P. Bush - who is a very attractive possible future Presidential candidate - by taking the primaries so personally.
