CHOICES

An elderly carpenter was about to retire. He told his employer-contractor of his plans to leave the house building business and live a more leisurely life with his extended family. He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire. They could get by.

The contractor was very sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end his career.

When the carpenter finished his work and the builder came to inspect the house, the contractor handed the front door key to the carpenter. "This is your house, he said, my gift to you."

What a shock! If only he had known he was building his own house, he would have done it differently. Now he had to live in the home he had built none too well.

So it is with us. Sometimes we build our lives in a distracted way, reacting rather than acting, willing to put up with less than the best. At important points we may not give our best effort. Then with shock we look at the situation we have created and find that we are now living in the house we have built. If we had realized that, we would have built it differently.

Think of yourself as the carpenter. Think about your house. Each day you hammer a nail, place a board, or erect a wall. Build wisely. Life is a do-it-yourself project. Your life today is the result of your attitudes and choices in the past. Your life tomorrow will be the result of your attitudes and the choices you make today.

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.

May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.

May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.

G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.

POW/MiA video. This is powerful.

Yesterday was POW/MIA recognition day to honor and remember those who have served our country and were taken prisoner as well as the “83,000+ American Service members still missing from WWII to present day.” CSPAN shared this brief clip of former POW Jerry Coffee who spoke of the codes he and other prisoners would tap to each other to keep their spirits up.

Coffee told how prisoners would tap “G.B.” — “God Bless” to each other, which also meant, “be tough, hang in there. I’m praying for you.”

“At the end of every day, we’d sign off and say good night. G.N. for good night,” Coffee tapped out on the podium. Coffee then tapped out more letters, adding, “G.B.A. God Bless America. Every. Single. Night.”

No dirt time - I'm still under the weather. Have an appointment with my PCP Monday afternoon. Seems my blood count is low.

"I VOW TO THEE, my country, all earthly things above,
Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love;
The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test,
That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best;
The love that never falters, the love that pays the price,
The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.

And there's another country, I've heard of long ago,
Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know;
We may not count her armies, we may not see her King;
Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering;
And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase,
And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace."

The Plymouth, MA, town hall was draped in the familiar Yellow, Green, and Red Vietnam Service Ribbon which I saw as the Alzheimers Walk went by. I remarked on the display to my fellow walkers.

Now I know why those colors were being displayed.

Thanks for the info!

Hiya radu!

Sorry I missed you last night, I petered out early.

Not much going on today either. A bit cooler with actual clouds, HEY, we hardly EVER get cloudy weather during the summer and this time of year!

Just watching some of Publius' old Astaire/Rodgers dance videos on the Friday thread.

You have a good Saturday?

Howdy, PRO! Glad to see ya tonight. I was afraid I’d missed you again. Been late getting here the past few nights.

It was a good day. With the fall festival going on in the little town where our HQ is, we’ve been open at night for it and I took the night shift both nights. There were a couple of others working, too, so we took turns making the rounds to check out the booths and chat with folks. The best part was both nights closed with fireworks. WOOHOO!

It was sunny and hot yesterday but cloudy and cool today. Cool is nice! Glad y’all got a bit of it up there too.

The shocker is that I gave up our Fri. night out to be there. LOL! I rarely give up Fri. night out for anything.

But this festival is fun and we get more folks stopping in at the HQ for signs and stuff so I didn’t mind. Plus I reeeeeeally enjoy the fireworks. :-)

Back to the dull grind next week.

Hey, there! How did it go at the festival? Did it rain you out?
We had rain...hail...and a tornado somewhere around here. We
got over 1 inch here at the house and the thunder is still rumbling
in a new storm. Yay! [for all except the tornado. LOL]
