I keep writing Trump's site that he should drop "the wall" terminology and replace it something a little more benign sounding...open to suggestions.
California (of all places) built a double-fence with razor wire atop, lights, sensors, and a road in-between for BP patrols on less than a third of our border. It reduced Cali's illegal immigration by over 90%. That's why Arizona became such a big deal during the Minutemen days.
From Yuma to Tucson there is nothing but wasteland and the Mexican border is far from the nearest hwy (I-8). It would take army size logistics to get the illegals and/or drugs across that immense desert that I personally drove through on my way to join the Minutemen. Don't believe me? Look at a map.
Eastern Arizona has roads from Nogales, Tombstone, and Bisbee that lead to staging areas at I-8. That's where a Calif type barrier would be a benefit. Texas is more problematic with all their border towns. So, just build longer Calif barriers.
One more time! We don't need a brick and/or concrete wall along the entire border! We only need the Cali fence in strategic places. I am so sick of nobody listening to the above point. GOOGLE: CALIFORNIA FENCE + DUNCAN HUNTER. The facts are there! THE DAMN THING WORKED! Sheesh, Donald, have your immigration policy advisors do their homework.
Google, Fair.org and CIS.org They have all the stats that Trump's advisors should know about.
One last thing: The INS should be doing more raids like they use to before Obambi. The Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9 is a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services form and still required. Hammer employers with huge fines for employing illegals. They go out of business? Too bad. Raise wages and hire our lazy children and make them pay for their worthless college studies.
Build the wall!
I’ve always thought of “the Wall” as more of a symbol is visual terms of the idea of border security. It doesn’t matter to me where they build and in what form it takes; what matters is that there is a sincere effort to prevent people from illegally crossing the border. We clearly do not have that now, so if we get that, the rest is details best left to the professional involved.
As far as the logistics of building a wall, anyone who has build skyscrapers like Trump has could handle the logistics.
How would the wall be built? It would be built like we build cold storages. Construct a footing with a key-way slot on the top. Precast cement panels, either on site, where convenient, or at another location and trucked in. Then the panels would be placed in the slot by crane and welded together with the metal weld points that are replaced in the panel at construction time.
The only difference between building a cold storage and a wall is that the cold storage is a box and the wall is a straight line.
Yes. ‘The Wall’ is good communication to many people, it is plain and obvious, and resonates; they understand what ‘wall’ means. But I’ve never personally cared if it was meant metaphorically. I trust Trump to do something to stop the influx, that’s all that matters.
No. Man up dude!
Disagree,
The wall is where Trump gained his popularity. It’s his signature. Changing that signature to soften the language is a sign of weakness.
For your information, I was in Tijuana yesterday. As I walked a mile from downtown TJ to the border I saw more than 100 asylum seekers from Africa. When I was down there three weeks ago I saw about 75, mostly men. Yesterday I saw, in addition to the men, lots of women with babies and small childern. I saw these Congolese people talking on their smart phones. They were probably calling their family members to start packing before 0bama leaves office. A lot of them are getting “asylum” in the U.Sl This is a secret we are not supposed to know. Judicial Watch knows about it, but apparently the word is not getting out to enough American patriots.
“... Trump should drop “the wall” terminology ...”
-
Would you prefer the word “barrier”?
-
“A rose by any other name would smell as sweet”
William Shakespeare - Romeo and Juliet
Secure micromanaged engineered safe space for non racist endangered US citizens.
We do.
Really? I was manning up against these invaders before it was even an issue, like I said with bat in hand as they tried to walk through my gate. Screw you for being so pissy.
Good one.
Donald can call it a “wall” for political purposes at this point, but I think most Americans who are trusting him to keep his word, understand that the final shape of that barrier may be substantially different.
We just want an impenetrable barrier erected, and some real enforcement teeth put back into our immigration laws. If Trump achieves those things, I don’t care what he calls it.
I always thought Kill Zone was kind of catchy.
The Wall has become a symbol for the barrier no matter what is used be it a physical structure
such as a wall or some other type such as fencing, etc. But there are options for differing
approaches along the entire border because of the landscape.
Approximately 1,255 miles exist along the Rio Grande river where the actual boundary is the
middle of the river. In Texas depending upon which part of the border becomes the topic it
will require different approaches. They would range from flat land to canyons/mountains.
With enough labor, equipment, material and land acquisition the project could be completed
but I’m not sure of how long it would take.
"We do."
Actually, no we don't. Did you miss what I said about the vast stretches of desert that are impassable? Don't take my word for it...look at a map. Go from Yuma to Tucson. You might as well be on Mars. There is no crossing that desert without the coyotes building an army sized logistics infra-structure. Why am I talking to the wind?
Ha ha maybe I should sell that one to Microsoft’s Cortana. I think I fried a few brain cells typing that one though
I agree. I was making the point that "The Wall" has a negative connotation for the "undecideds" and maybe call it something else. Fence? Barrier? American Sovereign Support? Just think the word turns of many who would otherwise support Trump. Plus, he needs to talk specifics as to where and what type of barrier. Again, think California double fence.
This cannot just be described in simple terms just for the sake of an election anymore than what I just stated. (well, I'm sure many can) Main point...it has to work. I do not believe Trump wants a wall just for perception of security. He is a results oriented man. This country use to build things that were effective and successful and I believe we can do this again.
