The 13-year-old boy shot and killed by an Ohio cop was carrying a BB gun that looked “practically identical” to a police weapon, authorities said Thursday.
Tyre King was fatally shot when police in Columbus responded Wednesday night to a call about an armed robbery.
Columbus Police Chief Kim Jacobs displayed a photo at a press conference Thursday of what she said was a “replica” of the BB gun held by Tyre, which had a laser scope on it.
“Our officers carry a gun that looks practically identical to this weapon,” she said. “As you can see, it looks like a firearm that could kill you.”
Jacobs said officers were responding to a call about armed robbery — a group was sticking people up for money on the street, and one of them was armed, witnesses told cops.
The black 13-year-old was shot multiple times by Columbus police officer Bryan Mason, who is white. Mason, a nine-year veteran of the department, opened fire when Tyre pulled what appeared to be a weapon from his waistband, police said.
Only later did investigators realize it was a BB gun, police said.

What makes you think he didn’t do what he was taught?
More to the point, what is an 8th grader doing out late on a school night robbing people with a BB gun instead of doing his homework? What are the odds he doesn't live with his father?

Shouldn’t Common Core have a unit on the potential drawbacks of doing Armed Robberies?
If you think facts matter to these people you are going to be very disappointed
2. King was with a group matching the description given to the officers.
3. The officers attempt to talk to the group, and they ran.
4. Officers catch up to King, and reportedly, he pulls out the replica gun.
5. Officers shoot King.
6. King's promising criminal career is ended.
7. A 19 year old confessed that King was with them and they were robbing people.

The cops shouldn’t have shot him. He shouldn’t have been around so late at night.
Tamir Rice’s parents walked away with a nice settlement. They should not have got squat.
I didn’t know that Rice pointed his toy gun at the police.

Yes, that caption might be inaccurate. I myself don't recall all the facts of the case. As for him being a little boy, he was 195 pounds according to the death certificate above.

Right. The people who were being robbed didn’t know it was a BB gun either. But Tyre’s family is looking to cash in.
Tread lightly. Wheel have trouble on our hands if the press inflate this story.
