Back in my day this would have been handled during a Chief Petty Officer Disciplinary Review Board (CPO DRB) and would have never needed to head to XOI or mast...In my day, DRBs cured A LOT of stupid and didn’t ruin the Sailors career...but that was a different time apparently.

I’m quite sure that this young lady would most definitely have benefit from a good old fashioned DRB, I’m positive!!!

Did Francis S. Key write that stanza

He did, and the reference is not to black slavery, but to the impressment of American sailors into the British Navy. Key is talking in the third verse about how the British swore to take back the US, but the "hireling and slave," meaning the enlisted men and the impressed men of the British Navy, had to experience "the terror of flight," as they left Baltimore harbor in particular, and were going to lose the war in general.

Nope. Straight to Court Martial. She blatantly broke the law.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SEC. 595. MILITARY SALUTE FOR THE FLAG DURING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM
BY MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES NOT IN
UNIFORM AND BY VETERANS.
Section 301(b)(1) of title 36, United States Code, is amended by
striking subparagraphs (A) through (C) and inserting the following new
subparagraphs:
``(A) individuals in uniform should give the
military salute at the first note of the anthem and
maintain that position until the last note;
``(B) members of the Armed Forces and veterans who
are present but not in uniform may render the military
salute in the manner provided for individuals in
uniform; and
``(C) all other persons present should face the flag
and stand at attention with their right hand over the
heart, and men not in uniform, if applicable, should
remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it
at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart;
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Start with Art.- 134 and build from there.

It ends with a Big Chicken Dinner.

John Kerry had his dishonorable discharge fixed byJimmy Carter. The system is not prepared to deal with that any more than those black West Point cadets who gave us the fist.

I wish we’d use the 4th stanza instead of the first.

Is the legacy of black slavery enshrined in a lesser-known stanza of the U.S. national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner”? Some historians say yes.”

It does not "enshrine" slavery. It alludes obliquely to the fact that Hessian mercenaries ("hirelings") and escaped slaves who had been promised freedom in exchange for fighting against American independence ("slaves") would rue the day.

I'm betting, however, that the Navy buckles

Sailor "identifies as African American". So, if she's black, you're right.

Back in the day this would have been dealt with severely and swiftly

Back in the day, this wouldn't have been even imagined.

Smells like a plant. Keep her training to the bare minimum. Station her in some forsaken hell hole but never on a ship. It would be very scary what she could pull aboard a ship. Keep her training to the bare minimum. Never give her a promotion. Never ever let her anywhere around intel. Assign her to latrine duty only. When she gets out, put her on the no fly list and keep an eye on her for life.

...she took a seat and raised her fist in the air, a symbol of the Black Power movement.

Snip

The sailor said she will not stand for the anthem “until this country shows they’ve got my back as a black woman.”

Looks like she is in charge here. This is for sure Not my dad’s Navy!

IMHO, the blacks of today don’t have a leg to stand on, because of the hundreds of thousands of Union Civil War dead and wounded....and that none of these people have ever been slaves.
