A sailor who refused to stand for morning colors may now face administrative action, Military.com reported late Wednesday.
Naval Education and Training Command spokeswoman Lt. Cmdr. Kate Meadows did not detail the specific actions the Navy is taking against the young, African-American sailor.
The young woman is training at the Naval Air Technical Training Center in Pensacola, Fla., and is expected to continue training with her class.
She sailor posted an eight-minute video to Facebook late last month explaining why she was following in the footsteps of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick by not standing during the national anthem. The woman cited the now-defunct third stanza of the song and instead of stopping in place and standing during the morning command, she took a seat and raised her fist in the air, a symbol of the Black Power movement.

"[The stanza] basically says land of the free, home of the brave, except for hirelings and slaves and I just can't support anything like that," the sailor said. "I think Colin had a really good point when he said we had bodies in the streets."
The sailor said she will not stand for the anthem "until this country shows they've got my back as a black woman."
There is no "may" with respect to rendering honors. The example of the lieutenant at the olympics demonstrated that.
The only question is how far up the chain of command should the reamer go? Who even allowed this to happen and why did they not take immediate corrective action? Why is the recruit not already discharged for conduct unbecoming?
Obama will deem it a fix it ticket.
No donuts for a day.
When my tax dollars are being used to pay you, you stand your ass up and salute!
She should get an immediate general discharge unless she relents in her attitude. Also, when you are in the military you don't have the same rights as when you were a civilian.
Include Articles 92 & 98. I don’t see how this will end well for her, if the Navy still abides by the UCMJ.
Bad Conduct Discharge.
These recruiters better start asking if a recruit supports BLM. And then tell them the American military does not want them.
But the NOI or NBPP might.
I hope this and other incidents like it are being archived for memorialization.
Is keelhauling allowed under UCMJ?
Kick her out. Immediately. Bad Conduct Discharge.
Do it right now. People like her are a cancer, a vicious, invasive cancer. She should be treated in exactly that fashion and excised.
We should not forget, this is EXACTLY what Obama, Clinton, and every single dedicated liberal wants, to erode and destroy the military to the point is is completely ineffective.
This is not some dumb-ass, no-talent, no-load of a football player.
This is not some stupid, spoiled, ignorant brat kid of POS parents.
This is a member of the military who took an oath. If the Navy does NOT discipline her it will only confirm to me how lost a cause the US Navy is, and the US military in general. To be honest, I am so embarrassed and disillusioned by by this and other things I have been seeing as ex-Navy, but make no mistake: The Navy is going head-to-head with the Air Force, followed by the Army, with the Marines resisting this BS when they can, but no service will be able to hold out on this, because the scumbags in power will and have cleansed the ranks of warfighters and replaced them with pliable social justice warriors who are more at ease in a safe space than they are with a weapon in their hands.
She is a cancer. BCD. Now.
To illustrate my point further, there is a new post about a USMC recruit suicide. This is the extent of command disciplinary action on that:
Third Recruit Training Battalion. Commanders and senior enlisted advisors at the series, company, battalion and regimental level were relieved in the wake of Recruit Siddiquis death and a number of drill instructors have been suspended. Currently, twenty Recruit Training Regiment personnel have been identified for possible military justice or administrative action.
Oh, what I would give to be back on active duty and spot this Social Justice Warrior, masquerading as a Navy Sailor, pulling this prank!
I can’t even imagine anyone doing something that stupid just eight years ago when I retired!
Her posting this on social media guarantees non-judicial punishment, at a minimum.
When I was growing up on Navy bases, there was no question at all that if we were outside, we stopped everything we did, faced the colors, and stayed respectfully still until the ceremony was over, and those ten notes would play: “Dah Dah Dah Da Da Da Dah Dah Dah Dah!”
And nobody ever deviated from that behavior, either. Nobody watched us, but we knew we had to do, and we should do it. It was inculcated with us.
If I ever goofed around during colors, and my mother or father found out, they would have been very displeased and severe. It was all about respect. So we did it.
That said, it didn’t stop us (if we looked over and saw the Marines or Sailors marching out to the flagpole) to run at high speed to get under cover, but even if we were 10 feet away from the cover or door when it started, we would stop dead in our tracks and turn around.
Every word you wrote.
I hate this. I hate watching this. It makes me angry.
Oh yeah. Art 91 as well. Basic insubordination.
Yep. Back in my day, last century and then some, she would be toast with butter and jam for Top to have for breakfast before he handed her over to the Captain. If I was inclined for Article 15 in this case she would get the max I had authority to dole out. But in my day, long, long ago the CSM would intercept this and know that the Admiral would be very interested in it.
My question exactly!
What isn’t this article talking about the punishment the former member received. Our military, especially the Navy, has no leaders. Not putting down swabbies—my son is one—but your commanders are leading the PC brigade.
Not fit for military service.....immediate dismissal.
As it should be!
All I have to say is WOW, this country is unraveling.......
