A white silhouette of an exotic dancer straddling a stripper pole distracted drivers on Route 101 eastbound Sunday after the image appeared on a highway sign thats supposed to display nearby attractions.
Its not clear when the image was placed on the blue sign just before Exit 5, but State Police reported it to the state Department of Transportation early Sunday evening, according to DOT spokesman Bill Boynton.
Boynton described the image as a three-foot tall sticker or decal. He said it wasnt authorized and that he had no idea how it got there.
The sign is used to advertise attractions, but its been blank for some time.
Prominent Concord businessman and Republican Steve Duprey was one of the drivers who was surprised to see the image on a highway sign.
When I first saw the sign I thought the state had gotten too open-minded in applying the new sign law. Aside from being inappropriate for a highway sign, I thought it was sort of a good prank and suspected that traffic off Exit 5 into Raymond probably hit record highs, he said.
State officials werent amused by the prank that came over the busy Labor Day weekend.
DOT crews moved in quickly to remove the image as soon as it was brought to their attention.
This may be of interest to you.
It is immature, but I don't care who ya are, that's funny!
Great prank!
Sure warns me that whatever Stael or area I’m entering is low life and just to keep moving.
The town of Raymond needs all the help it can get.
In that case, some exit signs should show black power fists or something similar. I mean, you can’t label ALL of them Martin Luther King Blvd.
Go figure...I see more ‘adult bookstores’ here in East Tennessee than I ever saw in soviet Red Hampshire.
I’ve seen that stuff driving through Texas. Along highways in Missouri.
And elsewhere. And more than a couple of signs.
Used to be “Pecan Bowls”, “Stuckey’s”, “Rest Stop”..........
I understand it might offend some, but I have to say, they didn't just spray-paint a huge penis on there, which is always expected and received with an annoyed groan. Everyone agrees, and has the same general thought "Come on, couldn't you have just drawn it on a bathroom stall, for goodness sake?"
But can you picture the responses for this one?
WIFE:"Honey, is there a rest area ahead (seeing the sign from far off) where we can pull off?"
HUSBAND:"Hmm...don't know (squinting) there might be..."
WIFE:"What the Hell?..."
HUSBAND:(uncertainly) "Well, I'm sure they have a bathroom..." (smirks)
WIFE:"You pig!"
HUSBAND:"Honey, look, there is probably some kind of new ordinance that allows them to have a logo like a gas pump or a bed...or maybe both (snickering)"
WIFE:"UUGH! (muffled sound of thudding fists)"
HUSBAND:"Aw c'mon, guys are people too! Just like they have a sign up there for rest, and food, why can't guys expect...(obscured by the sound of thudding fists)"
Beats the usual “Waffle House” and Gas Station signage.
Yeah, along I-44 from Joplin to St. Louie. Believe the Walnut Bowl factory is in Lebanon, MO and that’s a family friendly stop. And the Case knife factory outlet.
I like the `wholesale’ fireworks stands: `mortars’ big rockets. etc.

When I saw it, it came to me how the adult entertainment business would successfully bring suit to have that particular logo on those signs, which was, to me, a humorous thought.
Then I paused and realized that it was an inevitability, in that liberalism seems to be a one way ratchet.
Where I lived in Michigan, someone put one of those red dots (and it was reflective—great effect at night!) on the nose of a deer on a ‘Deer Crossing’ sign, making the deer look like Rudolph. The authorities kept removing it, and someone would replace it. Eventually, the authorities gave up.
Sue Ellen Mischke?
LOL! I can see the signs now!
