CHARLOTTE -- It wasnt a typical Sunday for members of the Antioch Road to Glory International Ministries in Charlotte.
The predominately African-American church held a Day of Endorsement for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Lafonda Jackson has attended the church for almost three decades and says most members support the effort.
Its not about upsetting anyone. Its not about choosing sides. Its about change. In the church right now, we have full support; no one has been asked to vote or swing one way or the other, said Jackson. It is completely up to every individual in here, and theres some that dont agree and some that do, but for the most part, yes we do support.
The churchs founder says members he's talked to want the change they say Trump can bring.
America needs change and I think because hes not right wing or not left wing, youre not liberal, and he is a business minded person, said Thomas Rodgers Sr. of Antioch Road to Glory International Ministries. I think the Democratic Party would be a major disaster right now.
On hand was Trumps daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, who is a North Carolina native. She thanked the crowd and said, The time is now....ladies and gentleman we are at a turning point in our country.
Omarosa Manigault, a former contestant on The Apprentice, who is also the director of African-American Outreach for the Trump campaign, was in attendance.
Ty Turner, an alternate delegate for the NC GOP and RNC says he was once a Democrat, but now aligns more with conservative views.
You see African-Americans actually waking up and making decisions -- thats different, said Turner. For 52 years, this church feels like the Democratic Party has failed them.
Supporters have their work cut out for them. A recent Economist/YouGov poll found 80 percent of African-Americans polled support Democrat Hillary Clinton while five percent support Trump.
History unfolding before our very eyes. Hope it has a dominoe efect. If Hillarys advisers are watching, they better get some new ideas how to gain the ground they are loosing.
If true, understand that it took six years for blacks to go from Herbert Hoover to FDR, and only then after a lot of federal assistance. Change is welcome, but slow.
Democrats will not allow blacks to prosper under republican president Donald Trump.
So it begins.
80% ain’t the 95% Jughead got.
I smell smoke.
A lot of prayers are being answered.
There goes their tax exemption.
“Democrats will not allow blacks to prosper under republican president Donald Trump.”
Well ain’t you full of optimism.
I think you’re right.........;)
I thought she was predominately white.
Here’s the thing- the Republican Party has TALKED for years, every four years - about “reaching out” to black citizens. POTUS candidates dutifully speak to the NAACP and then talk some more about “reaching out”. But they never appear to mean it. I think the right has bought the idea that the left OWNS black people.
I may be wrong, but this is the first time I can remember a GOP POTUS candidate actually trying to connect. Trump has set a tone, at least to my white ear, that may prove irresistible to a really sizable group of blacks. He’s showing up in Detroit of all places. Amazing. I actually believe he’s serious about this.
“predominantly African American Church”...i just when to their facebook page and saw a single white person in the photos...oh- btw; here’s a link to the photos and it seems this church is a favorite of al sharpton....this is going to leave a mark:

Maybe she needs to carry bigger bottles of hot sauce. It is insulting how white liberals treat blacks with a paternal, patronizing attitude, and yet still get 90%+ of their vote every election. If Trump can even get 10% of the black vote in November that would be progress.
He should now head to Chicago, St. Louis, and Louisville.
People forget that prior to June 2015 Trump had a lifestyle that few of us can imagine that was the result of a lifetime of hard work and business acumen. He put that aside and exposed himself and his family to taunts, ridicule, and threats from all sides. Nobody puts themselves or their families through that "for fun".
The more people see him, the more they see for themselves that he's the "real deal". And that's why his message can reach everyone yearning for real change. He doesn't see them as another "voting block" but as individuals and communities who all want a real share in the American dream.
